with ~a day of constant claude use I ported a sophisticated matlab simulation (>10k lines) to python. it's faster, cleaner now.
why does Matlab still exist?
In computer simulations, as an object slides along the surface of ice, a structureless, "amorphous" layer forms. Materials scientists at Saarland University in Germany argue that this process may be the cause of ice’s slipperiness. quantamagazine.org/why-is-ic…
A while back @byte_thrasher's zine awarded me a micro-grant with edition 0x00's profits.
I'm using these funds to make/experiment with a micro piezo stage positioner, described in the paper linked below and originally brought to my attention by @jwt0625 .
The plan from here:
-Custom driving electronics rp2350 controller
-Hardware upgrades for ease of assembly
-limit switch?
-magnetic tape encoder IC for absolute positioning
-Larger form factor
The goal is to get these working well enough to use in our ultrafast lasers, and potentially to upgrade the open source design a bit so they are more complete
