My first ever invited review is now available for all to enjoy (it's open access!). It's an overview of the current state of solvent-free liquid proteins and their potential applications, particularly involving ionic liquids. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/arti…

What’s cooking? A fossil fuel free future!♻️ Dr Alex Brogan (@apsbrogan) from @kclchemistry has used enzymes to produce fuel from food waste as effective as diesel, 1000x more efficiently than ever before⛽️ kcl.ac.uk/news/from-chip-sho… #ScienceAtKings

Pleased to share the latest paper from my group published in @green_rsc! Here, we show that by using ionic liquids, we can get a P450 decarboxylase to work at substrate concentrations 1000x that possible in water, and as a bonus - can be light activated! pubs.rsc.org/en/content/arti…

Potentially the biggest thing we need to do now is to realise that universal climate change mitigation will no longer be possible, and shift focus to both climate adaptation strategies and more drastic interventions that don't necessarily need global consensus to be effective.

Pleased to have contributed to this report, neatly sets out the challenges faced in dealing with the plastic waste problem.
Plastic is used across most sectors and the resulting pollution may pose risks to human, animal and environmental health globally. To meet UN targets, the UK's approach to plastic waste management may need to change. Read our new POSTnote to learn more: post.parliament.uk/research-…

Check out our latest paper published today in @ChemicalScience ! Here, Desmond shows how the chemical properties of viologens influence bio-electrocatalysis, where stabilizing the 2nd redox state allows for highly efficient electron transfer. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/arti…

This could pave the way for removing the requirement for expensive co-factors in biocatalysis, making it cheaper and easier to deploy enzymes for sustainable chemical production.
