Designer, curator, & advisor. Former policy human, themed to: international law & human rights. Currently building Sapientia, & occasionally fostering pups.
This is a new low in an endless stream of unconscionable violence.
The repeated strikes on hospitals, ambulances, densely populated areas and refugee camps are disgraceful.
“Rats with tiny backpacks are trained to find survivors” after earthquakes. They’re tiny, nimble & can reach areas rescue dogs cannot. Evolving acute rescue tactics post earthquakes is needed. Apopo (nonprofit) & their rats are solidly leading by example: fastcompany.com/90847351/the…
Humans want to be brands & it’s creepy. Brands are “by intention & design manufactured meaning.” Unlike humans, they don’t bleed, cry or feel. We're messy. It’s living from a place of truth that we move our species towards an existence worth celebrating. wepresent.wetransfer.com/sto…
"Modern day slavery in the Congo powers the rechargeable battery economy," it fuels slave labour, sex trafficking & more. ~10yrs ago I worked off Parliament hill & we ran events to educate "leaders" on mining cobalt. Nothing has changed. We can do better: npr.org/sections/goatsandsod…
Iranian Parliament Votes To Execute 15,000 Protestors Who Participated In Women's Rights Protests
Iran sits on the UN Women's Rights Committee.
Let that sink in.
Community note
A majority of Iran's parliament signed a letter broadly requesting the judiciary punish protesters harshly; it was not a literal death sentence for thousands issued simultaneously. verifythis.com/article/news/v…
This campaign and exercise in empathy was led by Razom. They're one of our partners for a Ukrainian medical project we've been working on. It uses visualization to imagine what one's city might feel like after becoming a war zone. It's worth exploring: blogto.com/city/2022/05/camp…
Yesterday I stood at the Kramatorsk station as we planned to serve food & coffee to 1000s evacuating. Today we saw their murder—Moms. Kids. People burned alive in their cars. We are in shock but @WCKitchen is not running away—we must stand with the people of Ukraine against evil.
“Leadership.” A wildly malleable term. If someone is leading a country where a cultural Genocide occurred, they have a responsibility to show-up on certain occasions. This is not healthy leadership. It’s an example of privilege or nepotism being unchecked. bbc.com/news/world-us-canada…
Refreshing to see female prowess injected into one of the most valuable US agencies. This team was founded by women & there’s a reason for that. Looking forward to when it feels superfluous to highlight female leadership. For now, grateful for what Jen, Matt & other humans built.
Fantastic news that @mina_hsiang will be the next administrator of the @USDS! She's a powerful and inspiring leader, and the inspiration for our concept of delivery-driven policy at @codeforamerica (see codeforamerica.org/ideas/pol…) Huge congrats to Mina, the USDS team, and all of us!
The bridge to Jeremie was damaged in the Haiti earthquake, which means vehicles can’t cross. So the @WCKitchen team had to adapt tonight—turning 17 motorbikes into hot meal delivery vehicles! This food is headed to towns outside Jeremie that were heavily impacted. #ChefsForHaiti
The Tejido launches today. They're protecting & rescuing dogs in Mexico. A collar for your pup covers the cost of a stray dog's collar, vaccines & ability to get fixed. A project I've had the honour of supporting over the last while. Link in their IG bio: instagram.com/thetejido/
Army Lt. Nazario was driving his new car home. He was pulled over, pepper sprayed, and arrested without explanation.
This is racism. It’s about the domination and humiliation of a Black man because he asked questions and “didn’t comply.”
This is an intense article to read & something I would encourage everyone to consider (if/when you're in a grounded spot). Despite our PM & his cabinet remaining spineless by being absentee from the vote, the Canadian gov't is aptly calling this Genocide. bbc.com/news/world-asia-chin…
The Book of Homelessness. The first graphic novel created by homeless humans. All profits from book sales are shared w/ the authors. Created by a UK charity, Accumulate, and Patrick Fry. Marginalized voices having a voice. Something we need a lot more of. dezeen.com/2020/12/02/the-bo…
TIME magazine replaces their logo to VOTE. A first, in their ~100 year history. Shepard Fairey designed the cover. (An American street artist worth exploring.) If you're American and flustered with navigating voting bits, VOTE magazine made you a guide: time.com/5901749/how-to-vote…
The seductive forces of comfort. Part of Menakem, DiAngelo, & Tippett's valuable banter. Like most temptresses, it's “not a seductiveness without a cost. It’s that most white people are willing for other people to pay that cost." ~50m of useful scrutiny: onbeing.org/programs/robin-d…
