A quick update on the infamous EU “ChatControl” 🇪🇺 What a turn of events in EU tech policy: from potential mandatory mass scanning of data (“ChatControl”) → to even voluntary scans losing their legal basis (for now). Just months ago, fears were growing around mandatory scanning of private communications in the EU (incl. pictures and videos). Now, talks between the EU Council (Member States) and the European Parliament have collapsed - and the result is a complete reversal. As of April 3, even voluntary scanning of data by platforms loses its legal basis under EU privacy (ePrivacy & GDPR) rules, as the temporary exemption was not extended. A striking example of how fast EU tech policy can turn - and a big win for European privacy advocates.

Typische Motte-Bailey Taktik. Unredlich und selbst im Kleinen falsch.

The Hypocrisy of "Sovereignty." The U.S. Logic: 👉When US SEC fines European companies for alleged US law violations in other countries, that is law & Order. 👉When the SEC fines a Swedish or German company for something they did in Africa, it is called "Global Anti-Corruption Leadership." 👉When the EU fines an American company for something they did inside Europe (like deceptive checkmarks or lack of ad transparency), it is called "an attack on American sovereignty.

Marco Rubio, who portrays himself as a defender of "freedom of speech," reveals himself here as a laughable hypocrite of the highest order. While he accuses Europe of practicing "extraterritorial censorship"—because democratic states want to regulate hate speech, disinformation, and incitement—his own Trump administration is conducting a systematic attack on precisely these freedoms in the US. This is not a fight against censorship; this is pure revenge politics and an authoritarian show of force: The Trump administration has already revoked or blocked thousands of visas for international students simply because they protested against the genocide in Gaza or criticized Israel. Social media monitoring for visa applications is being massively expanded, fact-checkers and content moderators are being defamed as "censors" and barred from entering the country. Journalists, activists, and critics of the regime are being harassed, while right-wing agitators and conspiracy theorists have free rein. Rubio is now threatening visa bans for "leading figures in the global censorship-industry complex"—a term straight out of the authoritarian lexicon. This isn't about protecting freedom of speech; it's an attempt to intimidate foreign regulations while simultaneously silencing any criticism at home of Trump, Israel, or his own policies. A state that persecutes dissidents, misuses visas as a political weapon, and only defends freedom of speech when it serves its own agenda is indeed sliding into autocracy. Rubio and Trump prove it every day.

I was fairly unaware that #PZF2025 was so advanced in audience, speakers, and thought leadership, TBH. Of course, you sift through the agenda, have a look at the panels (including your own) and plan (a little bit) your stay in #Zurich.

And then I attended the (invitation only) VIP reception dinner (for speakers & sponsors) and was extremely positively surprised. Y'know, at your average conference, if you arrive completely alone, you're doomed. NOT at #PZF2025: Welcoming, inclusive, interested, vivid, fun.

... forgot to tell you that 40% of participants are #DLT and #Blockchain people; the other 40% are regulators (rough estimate; might be biased). Interesting to note who's there and who isn't. For @gaiax_aisbl, #DLT perfectly ties int our ideas of a universal #registry.

It's Monday. @DOGE is the laziest, most overpaid bunch of incompetent, unelected bureaucrats we've ever seen.
I'm starting to think @DOGE employees don't work 120 hours weeks! They received $7M to have ChatGPT build them a website embedding a single Twitter feed and nothing else. They've done no real auditing of any government spending.

Playing around with some #CategoryTheory diagrams earlier just for the sake of finding a decent purely (!) graphical proof of some easy pieces. Maybe we see some of these things go into a decent theory of Arch.

Fun fact: If you mirror the diagram on the top left-to-bottom right diagonal and interchange A/B, r/f, and f/s, you get a similar result for the section s of f (f o s = id_B).

For all who still remember what ABEND and CICS mean in mainframe environments: Unintentionally killed the #CICS Transaction Gateway (#CTG) of my bank via Handy. Sadly, I can‘t remember the input parameters 😣
