Remember Rekha Patra, the face of resistance against political violence, police excesses, and the institutionalised sexual exploitation of SC/ST women in Sandeshkhali under TMC rule. Her fearless feminist assertions shattered the hegemonic feninist discourse & dominance of Kolkata’s elite urban upper-caste "mainstream".
It is only fitting that her name is being considered for a ministerial position & this has visibly unsettled sections of the entrenched Bengali upper-caste establishment, including many self-proclaimed progressive elites.
When Rekha's name floated around for Ministership, all hell broke loose, she is mocked, belittled, bullied, body shamed, witch-hunted for being dalit woman, this exposes how major cabinet positions in Bengal have historically remained the preserve of upper-caste Bengali men and women leaders & UCs can't see Dalit women rising through the ranks.
Here is a sample of a bengali Brahman woman blatantly abusing Dalit woman Rekha Patra(now an elected MLA).
