Is it just me seeing masonic symbols everywhere?
“𝐒𝐨 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐈𝐭 𝐁𝐞”
Though often used in modern witchcraft, the phrase originates from the
#Freemasons, who are part of a fraternal organization with no historical ties to witchcraft.
It appears in the Regius Poem, circa 1390
ALT When Gerald Gardner, a Freemason from Sri-Lanka, introduced Wicca to the public in the 1950s, he borrowed extensively from various sources and incorporated many Masonic elements, including this phrase. Over time, it became common in Wiccan and some broader witchcraft traditions, despite its non-magical origins.
Though its roots lie in medieval stonemasonry, “SMIB” is used today by Freemasons, Rosicrucians, Shriners, Neopagans, and Wiccans in their prayers, rituals, and ceremonies.
