something i've been struggling with since day one is to convince people that @ask_theta is more than an "AI study tool" partially because that space is incredibly littered with low-effort literal ChatGPT wrappers but also partially because it really isn't Theta is the future of how people will learn things on the web, and that's not limited to academics open to any ideas on how to tackle this

if you're a student at waterloo doing a summer academic semester, i need your help i'm exploring this idea of an "AI TA" (rough demo below), and to know if the concept works, i need to test it in a real academic setting so here's my proposal: you get: unlimited access to @ask_theta for the duration of the testing i'll buy you a coffee donut i get: 20 mins of your time twice a week for some feedback

Learning is best done by drawing on a whiteboard and talking to someone who talks back Not by > typing your question in a textbox > reading the wall of text LaTeX equations that the bot spits out > repeating Theta is the better way to learn with AI

i absolutely despise how AI is being used in education you're telling me that: > we created a beautiful, non-deterministic machine > gave it the sum total of all human knowledge > trained it to talk just like us > even gave it a lil inner dialogue to simulate thinking and the result is jeremy from grade 8 using it to copy-paste solutions to his trigonometry assignments because he’s too lazy to learn how to calculate the missing side of a right angle triangle ??? don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with using AI for school as long as you’re actually learning and not enslaving yourself to the token slot machine i genuinely think this (aka the outsourcing of human thinking and understanding) is a very serious and looming problem, that we’ll only see the real impacts of when the students currently in K-12 join universities / the workforce we can certainly do better and it starts by making it easier for the AI to teach instead of answering for that, i’m building @ask_theta (yes ik it’s an empty account rn, but just trust and follow)
