I traveled back to my undergrad this past week to lead a workshop for current McNair interns on applying for the NSF-GRFP. I applied as an undergrad because of my participation in McNair, and it was great to be able to pass on insights learned to help future graduate students!

Congratulations to Warren Lab's third year Connor Slamowitz, @CahoonLabUNC Corban Murphy, and @atkinlab Alexis Harvey for placing !FIRST! in this year's Sciathon - a 48hr competition to develop a proposal to solve a global issue with chemistry!

7 yr ago I stood in front of the library (3rd pic) looking at this grass field, not knowing how the path would wind up but just feeling close to heart.

It's one week of me taking summer leaves from my scientist role to science journalist through @AAASMassMedia!
Today one of my colleagues said his farewells which surprisingly made me a little tearyπ§
Can't wait for the 3month journey and what it will lead me to!

3 months working as a scientist in the corporate made me even more aware of accepting I don't know what I don't know.
I went from knowing nothing about working with samples and procedures, to where I can independently operate most microscope instruments wrap up a report. (1)

We had a great time at the NC Science Expo demonstrating the wonders of light by polarizing corn syrup, disappearing glass beads, and creating a rainbow from nailpolish!
