Big Tech did everything possible to make as much profit as possible without drawing the ire of government — as would (and should!) be expected. Trying to cast that dynamic as being anything else is bullshit.
Big Tech spent a decade doing everything possible to be the best conceivable progressive ally. They got treated with utter contempt, pounded daily, crucified in return. A full rethinking is required.

Constantly trying to portray one's self as the everlasting victim of democracy in the hopes of supplanting it is also bullshit. Supplanting democracy will only be good for those who are wealthy enough to defend themselves from that state of affairs.

…so we're back to the "the election will be stolen" sham talking points now? Awesome.

The same people who demanded that you have a vaccine ID to travel are now demanding that there be no ID for voting

I’ve hesitated to say this at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, but with last week’s big GDP revisions, there is no denying it: This is among the best performing economies in my 35 years as an economist. Economic growth is rip-roaring, with real GDP up 3% over the past year. Unemployment is low at near 4%, consistent with full employment. Inflation is fast closing in on Fed’s 2% target - grocery prices, rents and gas prices are flat to down over the past more than a year. Households’ financial obligations are light, and set to get lighter with the Fed cutting rates. House prices have never been higher, and most homeowners have more equity in their homes than ever. Corporate profits are robust, and the stock market is hitting a record high on a seemingly daily basis. Of course there are blemishes, as lower-income households are struggling financially, there is a severe shortage of affordable homes, and the government is running large budget deficits. And things could change quickly. There are plenty of threats. But in my time as an economist, the economy has rarely looked better.

Musk: "…there will be no more swing states!!" Outstanding!! States will finally move away from winner-take-all elections & move to actually democratic systems of voting instead — like Maine & Nebraska (unless Rs undermine that too).

Very few Americans realize that, if Trump is NOT elected, this will be the last election. Far from being a threat to democracy, he is the only way to save it! Let me explain: if even 1 in 20 illegals become citizens per year, something that the Democrats are expediting as fast as humanly possible, that would be about 2 million new legal voters in 4 years. The voting margin in the swing states is often less than 20 thousand votes. That means if the “Democratic” Party succeeds, there will be no more swing states!! Moreover, the Biden/Harris administration has been flying “asylum seekers”, who are fast-tracked to citizenship, directly into swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and Arizona. It is a surefire way to win every election. America then becomes a one-party state and Democracy is over. The only “elections” will be the Democratic Party primaries. This already happened in California many years ago, following the 1986 amnesty. The only thing holding California back from extreme socialism and suffocating government policies is that people can leave California and still remain in America. Once the whole country is controlled by one party, there will be no escape. Everywhere in America will be like the nightmare that is downtown San Francisco.

Harris is correct that Trump helped kill a bipartisan border security bill. In February, a bipartisan group of senators introduced a border security bill that would have given immigration officials more funding and changed how asylum is decided for people arriving at the United States’ southwest border. Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., James Lankford, R-Okla. and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., co-sponsored the bill. The National Border Patrol Council — the U.S. Border Patrol’s union endorsed the bill. The bill failed to pass the Senate twice. Trump urged its demise. politifact.com/article/2024/…

Rant… I put $20 in my gas tank yesterday, because that is what I had. I’m about to head to the grocery store and attempt to get groceries to feed my 4 kids for the week with the $80 I have to put towards food. I feel the struggle, but not a chance that makes me vote for Trump. Republicans don’t give a shit about me and families like me. None of their policies will make life easier for me. Voting for Trump isn’t a magic fix to lower grocery prices. He shits on a fucking gold toilet…. He doesn’t give a shit about struggling families. What we need is to elect Harris, and have a democrat controlled senate and house, so they actually can pass some meaningful legislation to help families. For fucks sake… the republicans in Michigan voted AGAINST giving public school kids free lunch and republicans in Washington voted against the expanded child tax credit. They don’t care about you. #StopTheBullshit

A 1st-world country *requires*: • robust public infrastructure (roads, bridges, ports, utilities) • intellectually honest public schools • equitable system of justice and (since none of that happens for free) …and, importantly, a tax base to fund it all. 🧵2/4

Think about how dangerous the *office* of the presidency has now become. Trump is overtly despotic — we'd be fools to put *him* in that office again, but people who know how to be *insidious* want the office too.

SCOTUS created a bespoke ruling that rescues Trump from prosecution. So Nixon's claim that "If the President does it, it's legal," becomes law with the proviso that the White House must be involved.
There's an important sub-part of the Trump immunity ruling in which #SCOTUS holds that "protected conduct" (that can't be prosecuted) also can't be used as *evidence* to establish other charges. Justice Barrett, otherwise concurring, agrees with the dissenters that that's wrong.

Why tf did CNN *agree* to host a facts-optional debate?? Even @jaketapper should have considered the risks to his professional reputation for having anything to do with it!
CNN's decision to abrogate its journalistic responsibilities by not fact checking Trump's firehose of lies is unforgivable. This debate is Biden vs the tag team of Trump and CNN's utter failure as a news organization

“You’re the savior of the people, you bring tears to my eyes.” “No no, you saved Europe.” “My hero.” “No, you are our hero.” “I pray for you.” Heartbreaking between @ZelenskyyUa & a #DDay veteran, who knows the cost. He kisses his hand & won’t let go.

…so is it just naive of Tesla customers to think that they ever actually *own* their vehicles? Maybe I'm the naive one. Do other companies charge you years in advance of receipt for their products, only to constrain what you can/cannot do with it? apple.news/AX6rifmOjRtyW9Veb…

Seriously beginning to think all pet adoption organizations are 501(c)3 tax-shelter scams. So far I've been rejected for having: • an elderly family member • an auto-retractable leash • a fence with a gate Do those animals on Pet Finder actually exist?
