The only thing Frieren demons are supposed to be on a narrative scale:
-A picture of absolute, irredeemable evil.
-Antagonists that cause everyone to cheer when they get obliterated in hype moments by the protagonists.
Nothing more, and nothing less.
Let’s breakdown the progression here.
>The usual suspects claim Frieren is a racist dog whistle because demons are actually allegories for minorities (massive projection tell here, btw)
>People who enjoy the show for what it is lean into this to piss off the people believe the above.
>This filters the usual suspects who ruin fandoms effectively.
>Frieren remains really popular without the abundance of an obnoxious fandom (some still exist, they didn’t all leave, unfortunately)
>This bothers the usual suspects because they don’t have the control over a narrative for once.
>Time to flip the script.
>”Actually Frieren would murder racists because THEY’RE the real demons!”
>Still completely missing the point of the show
>Goalposts continues to move in perpetuity.
Don’t get me wrong, those that say “Frieren is about her murdering demons because she LOVES doing it!” And are serious about that also completely the point of the show, but in the end this shit wouldn’t have happened if you nitwits actually watched the things you claimed to love and soaked in it’s themes instead of projecting what you want to believe onto them.
The tiresome levels continue to increase.
It is well drawn though, so that’s neat.
