For the first time in decades, Somalia will be represented by a women's national team on the sporting stage.
Our beloved Ocean Queens will carry our flag into the CECAFA Women’s Cup in Tanzania, standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the region’s strongest teams as they compete for the coveted title.
This is more than a football tournament. It is a testament to perseverance over adversity, hope over hardship, and belief over doubt.
It is the result of countless sacrifices, unwavering commitment, and the relentless work of men and women who refused to allow the dreams of Somali athletes to fade.
For more than three decades, our sporting community endured immense challenges that often stood between talent and opportunity. Yet the Somali spirit has never been defined by obstacles. It has always been defined by resilience.
Alhamdulillah, today we witness the fruits of that resilience. From producing outstanding talents such as Omar Artan, one of Africa’s finest referees, to the inspiring achievements of Ramla Ali and many other athletes who have carried our name with honor, and now to our Ocean Queens, Somalia is reclaiming its rightful place on the sporting map.
Today, young Somali girls everywhere can look at this team and see something powerful: not just players on a field, but possibilities made real. They can see that dreams once deferred can still be achieved, that barriers can be broken, and that a new chapter can be written by those courageous enough to step forward.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Somali Football Federation, its leadership, coaches, officials, and everyone whose dedication made this historic achievement possible. Your efforts have given our daughters the opportunity not only to play football, but to represent a nation with pride and dignity.
To our Ocean Queens: wear that shirt with confidence. Wear it with honour. Wear it knowing that you carry the hopes of a nation that believes in you. Play with courage, play with joy, and play for one another. The result will matter, but your place in history is already secure.
As you walk onto that field, remember that you are not only representing Somalia as it is today, you are helping shape Somalia as it will be tomorrow.
We stand behind you. We believe in you. We are proud of you.
Go Ocean Queens, go. Somalia is with you every step of the way.
