As of yesterday on National Poetry Day, I have received the honour of becoming Birminghams Poet Laureate ❤️ It is humbling to be chosen to represent the city that gave me so much, the city that has moulded me, I pray now that I am able to give back.

Five Somalis Making History at the World Cup in the Americas! 🇸🇴⚽ While Somalia’s national team isn't playing, five elite figures of Somali heritage are set to light up the global stage in historic, diverse roles: 🇸🇴 Omar Artan (#Somalia): Leading on the pitch as an official World Cup referee. 🇶🇦 Akram Afif (Qatar): The star forward leading the Asian champions' attack. 🇩🇰 Anis Ben Slimane (Denmark): Anchoring the midfield for the European powerhouse. 🇸🇪 Taha Ali (Sweden): Bringing blistering pace and creativity to the wing. 🇸🇦 Mukhtar Ali (Saudi Arabia): Driving the midfield engine for the Green Falcons.

The original was an anti-war song about a Somali refugee and systemic poverty. It was butchered it, and repackaged as hollow anthem for a glorified sports spectacle.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Türkiye, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Djibouti, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the State of Palestine, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of the Sudan, the Republic of Yemen, the Lebanese Republic, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, People's Republic of Bangladesh and the State of Kuwait condemn in the strongest terms the illegal and unacceptable step taken by the so-called “Somaliland” region in opening a purported “embassy” in occupied Jerusalem. This constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, and represents a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem. The Ministers reaffirm their categorical rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at entrenching an illegal reality in occupied Jerusalem or conferring legitimacy on any entities or arrangements that contravene international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. They reiterate that East Jerusalem has been occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, and that any measures intended to alter its legal and historical status are null and void and without legal effect. The Ministers further emphasize their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and their unequivocal rejection of any unilateral measures that undermine the unity of Somali territory or infringe upon its sovereignty.

We should all be Brummaxing this summer... ☀️ Brummaxing is the practice of enhancing one's experience of Birmingham, often through methods like appreciating various aspects of our city whilst not letting chronically negative media make our home seem like a hellhole. 🤔

REPOST so he'll receive rewards continuously forever. Maybe our post will get the same reposts when we die.
He may no longer be here… but his Qur’an recitation still lives on. 🤍📖 May Allah forgive him, have mercy on him, and make the Qur’an a light in his grave.

Without fail you post something vaguely nice about Birmingham you’re inundated with “what about the shit bits?” and let me tell you I’d much rather be in the ‘shit bits’ of Birmingham than I would do Paris, London, Berlin, New York or most other major cities.
The actual most underrated city in all of Europe is Birmingham and it’s not even close. The insane negative briefings Birmingham tanks put it in a different realm of underrated than any other city.

Sagal Abdi-Wali - elected this evening as the leader of Camden Council. A massive job. She’s probably the first person of Somali origin to lead an English Council.

The State of Minnesota has a recorded 90,000 graduates across the state. Out of these 90,000 graduates, 40,298 have earned a Bachelor’s degree. Among these 40,298 graduates, 7,448 are of Somali descent. This means that for every 10 university graduates, Somalis constitute 2. In other words, a population of less than 1% is responsible for 20% of college graduates. #SomaliExcellence

Its gonna be a interesting few years
Want to understand what happened in the local elections, Birmingham is a good start; a microcosm of British politics in one city, a Frankenstein rainbow morphed from the dead two party consensus, with sectarian politics, white working class grievance, and desperate economic anger
