Cutting NIH to save budget is like cutting the front lobe of brain to lose weight. Itās <1% of body weight yet it governs reasoning and problem solving functions of the brain, basically determining how smart you are. Dumb move to send IT kids to do your brain surgery, America.

Without NIH funds to run research labs at academic institutions, as a country we cannot train PhD students. No physician scientists. No undergraduates get experience in labs. Nothing.
Industry does none of these things.
Other countries will have to take the lead.

I was supposed to have an NIH study section (KEDD) today but it was "postponed TBD" yesterday.
NIH can't make awards if it can't publicly announce its study section and Council meetings in the Federal Register. No meeting has been added since Jan 21

Itās no accident because the actual policy agenda coming down the pike is: defunding science; undercutting vaccines; cutting Medicaid; deregulating polluters; & upward wealth redistribution, all of which will only *exacerbate* impact of chronic disease on population health.
