I know Staal does a ton defensively and in the faceoff dot for Carolina, but dude was 24th in playoff scoring. Only had 5 points through 13 games in first 3 rounds. He was behind guys who got knocked out in the 2nd round. Cup Final MVP? Yes. Entire playoffs? No way.

Too many Caps fans on the TL want Carolina to win. They are our second-biggest rival. The only thing worse than this would be a Penguins Cup.

Just a friendly reminder: Carolina was in on Carter Hart and Michael McLeod, but the deals never materialized. And there's no indication that the deals fell though because of anything to do with the Hockey Canada trial. They were willing to look past it if it helped them win.

Sadly, they definitely aren't the only team, either. More teams than you'd like to admit would've done the same if they were in the same boat as Vegas. Signing a goalie just didn't make sense for a ton of teams. It's what we like to call "the ends justify the means."
