Good gathering at Chew Valley School to hear about the pros & cons of airport expansion. Organised by BAAN and Stop Felton Common campaign groups. Our research shows that @BristolAirport's perceived benefits are heavily outweighed by disadvantages to communities & environment.

Save Felton Common day of action - Sunday 19 April. Was a great day where some 250 people came to show their support for protecting ancient common land and opposing @BristolAirport's greedy proposal to locate landing lights there.

A warning. All the worst people in the country are now shitting themselves. The mother of all campaigns is now going to be directed against the Green Party. It will be an unrelenting smear campaign. The Greens need to be ready for that - and so does everyone on the left.

A new campaign group, SAVE FELTON COMMON has been established to organise the strong opposition to Bristol Airport's plans for 8.5m high landing lights to be located on Felton Common. This audacious & unwelcome 'land grab' has really angered local residents & users of the Common.

If given the go ahead, these relocated landing lights will light up the night sky, turning the night into day for local residents & will disorientate surrounding plants & animals. The Common is well loved & used by many. The proposal is a red line for lots of people in the area.

Bristol Airport undertook a 6 week consultation to gauge the views of local residents. Airport staff certainly felt the anger of those who attended the in-person village hall event. The Airport has admitted that the 640 submissions to the consultation were 'universally negative'

Thanks to @FlightFreeUK for their work in encouraging people to think and act on their choice to fly or not. Clearly the Govt and aviation industry are avoiding their urgent responsibilities in making wholesale changes towards sustainable flying.
Heard sustainability influencers saying we should ONLY care about system change? It's a lie. It might be comforting to think our individual choices don't matter & it's all down to industry and govt, but the truth is we need BOTH to change dramatically. It's not one or the other.

The future of aviation is not airport expansion, its smarter, fairer aviation policy. We know how much the average family values their family holiday, and we're not trying to take that away. What we want, is for the biggest polluters to start paying their fair share.

Members of BAAN group attended an important Parliamentary event focusing on the future of aviation - hosted by @_wearepossible @The_AEF, @_SafeLanding et al. Was great to meet MPs, other campaign group members, @ZackPolanski & company reps with an interest in aviation.

The idea of a frequent flyers levy is really popular yet there seems to be reluctance by Government to implement it. I suppose the main challenge is how do you 'count' flights esp those of private jets that take off from smaller airfield. instagram.com/reel/DTvaZB3gq…

The other metric is to decide what constitutes 'frequent flying'. Surely, anything over 2 return flights in any one year is enough for most people. However I have heard people suggest it should be nearer 6 return flights. That's ridiculous!

20% increase in short stay parking and drop off charges. Is this sheer greed or sound business practice to cover cost of increased business rates in a bid to maintain profit levels? Will it encourage a switch to use buses to travel to & from the airport? bristol247.com/news-and-feat…
