Thank you to Principal Sherry Schliesser of @Kingswoodbuzz for showing me how y’all compost at school (and some local history too!) The forerunner to the modern Kingswood Elementary was the Cary “Colored” Elementary School. Joe Holt Jr’s mother was a teacher & principal here!

I feel like this article does a lot of unhelpful both-sidesing...so let me give some additional context (that for some reason, @newsobserver doesn't want to do.) A 🧵...

More than 70,000 North Carolina families want a new private school voucher. Who will get one? The record demand exceeds the state funding available so priority for new Opportunity Scholarships will go to the families with the lowest incomes. #nced #ncpol newsobserver.com/news/local/…

It’s really important we understand and confront the fact that desegregation and diversity initiatives both in Raleigh and throughout America has *always* been on the terms and at the pace of white comfort. #Washington100

Anybody remember that time in 1954 the Supreme Court ruled that segregation in schools was unconstitutional, but rather than comply, every southern state including NC devised ways to deliberately defy, delay, and obstruct its compliance? No? Just me?
No. Sorry. You may not break the laws you don’t like – even in Chapel Hill. I worked with the legislature to pass the Parents Bill of Rights to protect children and empower parents and it’s unacceptable for Chapel Hill or anyone else to ignore it. #ncga #ncpol #nced

This is how whiteness gets invisiblized. How many white people have served on the WCPSS board at the same time? This is why the pursuit of equity does not have 2 equally legitimate sides.
