What's scary about language models like GPT aren't that people think they're actually intelligent (they aren't) or are capable of replacing human jobs (only marginally). What's scary are the number of people who think language models tell them the truth.

How do I remember how to spell restaurant? In French "au" means "at". It's a place you can rest, but still rant. A "rest au rant".

I was there. I was there 3000 years ago when Aldus made PageMaker. I was there the day the strength of Aldus failed. I led Aldus into the heart of John Warnock's garage, where Adobe was forged, the one place It could be destroyed!

Spending time "organizing your drugs" is a lot more exciting, sexy, and provocative in your 20s than it is in your 50s.

I watched too many nature documentaries as a kid. In meetings when I see "________ is presenting" I think of the totally wrong things.

During the pandemic, Twitter started suggesting more junk than it gave real tweets from people I follow on desktop web. By the time of acquisition, I had to hit PgDn 2 times to get to a tweet. Since then, it's been growing. New record today: 9 PgDns! Smells like Facebook.

It seems Elon got a standard moderation rejection from Apple, likely from submitting an update for the app, and took it as a personal attack. Sigh... Welcome to the UGC biz, Musk. I see your orientation is going about as well as expected. Rejection boomerangs will happen.

So this is something free... That I pay for. Went to watch Being John Malkovich on Prime. Can't watch it without ads. Skipping it instead.

Twitter is like open-sourcing the news

For those of us in the industry "there are no sacred cows in product at [company] anymore" translates directly to "we have no idea what our product is nor do we have any idea what we're doing."
There are no sacred cows in product at Twitter anymore. Elon is willing to try lots of things -- many will fail, some will succeed. The goal is to find the right mix of successful changes to ensure the long-term health and growth of the business.

Charging users for accounts won't just defeat your bot problem - It'll add a new user retention problem! Fun! You're showing you're out of your depth here Musk. It seems you have no idea why paid accounts don't work out online. Just look at how few blue checks you already have.

Replying to @StephenKing
I will explain the rationale in longer form before this is implemented. It is the only way to defeat the bots & trolls.
Sci-fi TV Directors: We get it. You really want to make a music video. Why don't you go do that instead of shoehorning it into the shows you make.
