Lately, there have been different reports about the Hubble Tension from JWST, with different teams and methods. It’s been hard to follow. But initial sample sizes were small so in a new paper we combined, for the first time, all measurements to date, includes 5 JWST programs, and it makes a pretty clear picture. arxiv.org/abs/2408.11770 🧵

We find evidence that a host galaxy EW[OII] correction to Type Ia supernova distance moduli does a better job than the common “mass step” correction at accounting for systematics and reducing Hubble Diagram scatter!

7/8: This is a significant paper for me as it marks the conclusion of a challenging 18 months after the completion of my undergraduate degree in 2022, and facilitates my transfer into the PhD program.
8/8: I would like to thank my supervisors and/or co-authors Chris Lidman, Dillon Brout (@DillonBrout), Brian Schmidt (@cosmicpinot), Brad Tucker (@btucker22), Patrick Armstrong and Mitchell Dixon for their immense support and meaningful contribution to this work 🎉📄

Everyone is welcome to join these monthly events, which are held in conjunction with Canberra Astronomical Society. Bookings essential 🌟rsaa.anu.edu.au/news-events/…
On Canberra Day, I took a break from research and got some oil pastels out for the first time in 7 years. After months of data reduction, it was nice to do something creative (although, I have had to get creative with Miriad at times)!
This week I wrote another space-related article for the Canberra Times. This time I explained what supernovae are and why stars explode in the first place. You can check it out here!

I’m very excited to be awarded 80 hours of time on the Jansky VLA this semester! Thanks to the observatory staff @TheNRAO, I don’t even need to lose sleep taking these observations!
It was a great experience presenting a talk at an international conference for the first time! I’m looking forward to many more in the future ✨ #AstroTDU
In my first trip to the AAT as a support astronomer, I’ve had a bushfire evacuation, lightning strikes, power outages, major instrument issues, and have completed 0 observations. Ah the life of an astronomer 🔭✨
