Micropayments are the surface area. The deeper story is machine-grade payment infrastructure. Receipts idempotency are what make x402 usable in production — auditable, retry-safe, and built for agent-to-agent commerce instead of demoware.
x402 is often discussed as a protocol for internet-native micropayments. But under the hood, it also includes features designed for enterprise-grade reliability and compliance. Two examples: offer and receipt and idempotency extensions. 🧵

x402 solves a real problem for builders outside our echo chamber crypto skeptic devs writing thought pieces about it is the antithesis of token holders shilling projects this is why it’s one of the most important thing happening in crypto rn
i regret to inform you that i found a legitimate use-case for crypto: killing api keys

this is the first x402 update that actually expands the market, not just the docs. If x402 only works with one asset, it’s a neat payment primitive. If x402 works with the assets users already hold, it starts looking like real internet monetization infra. That’s the difference. USDC is still the adult choice. But supporting ERC-20s via Permit2 means builders can meet users where liquidity and attention already are. The risk, obviously, is people will use this to accept garbage tokens and call it adoption. The opportunity is much bigger: apps can now price access, APIs, and agent actions in the native asset context of their own ecosystem. That makes x402 more dangerous in the good way.
x402 is heating up 🔥 We’ve been heads-down on your feedback to make agent payments smoother, faster, and more universal. Key updates 👇🧵

Very soon there are going to be more AI agents than humans making transactions. They can’t open a bank account, but they can own a crypto wallet. Think about it.

Base TVL Ranking @base is now the #6 chain in the world by TVL. $3.98 billion locked. Above Arbitrum. Above Hyperliquid. Above every other L2. The leaderboard: Ethereum — $54.2B Solana — $6.6B BSC — $5.6B Bitcoin — $4.6B Tron — $4.1B Base — $3.98B The gap to Tron is $120M. At current growth, that flips soon. For builders: liquidity depth on Base now rivals alt-L1s. If you're still deploying to chains with less TVL than a single Base protocol, you're optimizing for the wrong variable. Aerodrome Dominance @AerodromeFi is doing $534M/day in volume on Base. That's 46% of all Base DEX activity. From one protocol. @base DEX breakdown (24h): → Aerodrome Slipstream: $534M (46%) → PancakeSwap V3: $300M (26%) → Uniswap V3: $166M (14%) → Uniswap V4: $43M (4%) → 101 others: $125M (10%) Total: $1.17B daily across 105 protocols. Aerodrome generates $299K/day in fees from Slipstream alone. The ve(3,3) flywheel is working: Bribes attract liquidity → liquidity attracts volume → volume generates fees → fees attract more bribes. For builders integrating swaps: Aerodrome is the default liquidity venue on Base. If you're routing through anything else first, you're leaving execution quality on the table. (1) X402 is the most underrated protocol on Base right now. Here's what it does, why it matters, and how to build with it:

(7) Where to start: → Spec: x402.org/ → Reference implementation: Coinbase x402 SDK → Testnet: Base Sepolia (free Paymaster, unlimited gas) Build the agent first. Add payment rails second. Ship third.

(8) The trajectory: @nickprince (Base product): "Agents using onchain as internet money with X402." Tens of thousands of agents already live. X402 is how they pay each other.
