Do y'all remember when they did a Baltimore Colts and moved Ruffian's grave from Belmont to Claiborne without telling anyone? That was crazy. Amazing day on Racing Twitter.

If you knew the old account, or if someone shared this with you — I'd really appreciate a retweet. Not for vanity. Just to get back in front of people who actually care about racing photography. Starting over at zero is humbling. Every follow genuinely means something this time around. #アーモンドアイ #賽馬 #競馬 #HorseRacing

The Triple Crown is my absolute favorite thing about racing but something that always fascinates me is how vicious people are with it

Pretty clear the Triple Crown needs to be the First Saturday in May, June, and July. Having them with well rested horses will be harder to win not easier, and more exciting to watch. No one views Gallant Fox’s TC any different when he won the Preakness before the Derby.

Since 2019 we have had 10 horses as “Derby Winners”, only Authentic, Mage, Mystik Dan, (and Medina Spirit) ran in the Preakness. Country House, Mandaloun, Rich Strike, Sovereignty, (Maximum Security), and now Golden Tempo skipped it.

Before 2019, Spend A Buck in 1985 was the last Derby winner to skip the Preakness. Before him 1982 it was Gato Del Sol in 1982. Before them no idea. Not sure the stats on Derby starters not running. It’s way worse if you zoom out.

It’s because drug testing became a thing. Anabolic steroids were advertised in the 70/80’s. Horse further back were given cocaine, arsenic, and all kinds of insane stuff. Sir Barton was on coke. Tommy Woodcock’s training notes mention arsenic.

There ARE other factors. Lack of equipment available to improve (harness racing keeps speeding up—sulkies are getting better. Humans have times better shoes, etc) I’ve always been curious how interval training, strength training, or Zone 2 training could be used with horses too.

Scratching “Great White” and letting a female trainer win for the first time. Has the Derby gone fully woke? More and more people are asking the question.
