I want to take this moment to shoutout my cohost
@Kiingdeej … we started doing play by plays last year in the Detroit series. Why? We just felt like the team/knicks twitter, needed some good juju. A rallying point. A place for us to put our differences aside and just root for the Knicks to get it done.
This year, we took it to another level. Going from just audio, to getting the camera to capture these moments.
Deej is always traveling from city to city, so he would often have to rock out in random hotels in Salt Lake City, Denver, im pretty sure it got as random as Idaho.
But he was always down to do the play by plays with me. For 50 plus regular season games, we rocked out together. We hosted community.
Most iconic call til this day is Game 4 of the Detroit series… but there was a lot of fun comebacks. I think of the nba cup final vs the spurs. The Christmas game vs Cleveland. Then we had some crash outs man. The MLK game vs the mavs, the infamous “if we go down ten the stream is over” game vs Phoenix on Alumni night.
But what stayed consistent is our community, the listeners, special shoutout to
@knickshomer who helped power this thing with contributions of ideas, conversation, encouragement, it was a lot of days where we contemplated “should we do a play by play” and Homer represented the fans who wanted one.
Obviously, the Landry shamed three in game 1 was a crazy moment. One thing I really enjoyed about this run was the comebacks. Cuz all throughout my Knicks fandom, I’ve been saying things like “if we can just cut it to single digits” and we’d either end up having a fake comeback, or just ran off the floor.
This run was crazy. It’s like everything we asked the Knicks to do? They did it. And I gotta give credit to Deej. He always kept the spirits high. I was ready to throw in the towel on a lot of these games but he just reminded me of the job we had to do.
Another shoutout to
@fasho2k Billy, who stepped in for game 4 at half and then Game 5 at the end of the first quarter. Billy was a true good luck charm and pushed the vibes back to where they needed to be.
As a die hard Knicks fan and a content creator, it’s tough cuz so many times you just wanna be a fan. However, I felt over the years that there was very important conversations about basketball, team building, organizational standards, that needed to take place. In a perfect world, I’d be back where my fandom started in front of a tv just rooting for the team, desperately.
But now with social media, the responsibility is different. I feel like I have an important voice. I apologize for the times I abused that power. I do think I was able to bring the fans together for the most part and to document moments like this, was the best part.
I don’t think I was able to properly celebrate or even watch these games as a fan, part of me regrets it a little ngl, but this moment Deej wouldn’t let me just record, save the camera, organize equipment
He was like “we are world champions”
Look, I know it’s not normal. But this really does mean everything to me. When my son passed, I was checking the espn app, Knicks Celtics season opener, and we were getting destroyed. But I kept checking the score cuz that’s what we do.
I know the Knicks accomplished this and it’s truly theirs to own. But as a fan, To see them win after all this franchise has been through. It’s just a great metaphor for life and hopefully we can all focus on wins in our own lives now 😂🧡💙
