The Side No One Sees….
Running a charity isn’t just the happy endings you see on social media.
There’s a darker side, the behind-the-scenes battles that many people never witness.
On Tuesday I spent 6½ hours in court trying to save a dog from destruction. Despite every effort, the magistrates ordered that the dog be destroyed. It was heartbreaking to hear.
But the fight is not over. Thankfully, we are able to appeal, and Dogs On The Streets will stand by this dog and support the case in every way we possibly can.
As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also been contacted by a legal firm regarding another dog facing destruction.
In this case, the police are refusing to release veterinary records but still want to proceed with destruction on “animal welfare” grounds.
How can a decision like that be made without providing the evidence?
They know the owners cannot afford thousands of pounds for exploratory veterinary investigations, and it feels like the easy option is simply to destroy the dog. That is something we will never stand for.
No family should be bullied into losing their dog because they cannot afford costly procedures, and no dog should be destroyed without transparency or evidence.
If necessary, we will launch a fundraiser to help cover the veterinary costs and fight for the truth , because every dog deserves a fair chance.
This work can be exhausting, frustrating, and at times heartbreaking… but it’s also why Dogs On The Streets exists.
We will continue to stand up for the voiceless and support the people who love them.
The fight for these dogs is far from over. 🧡
