Enjoying some Friday evening AI dreaming of a mix of Hiroshi Nagai and Syd Mead visual styles to produce renders for acrylic painting ideas I’d like to do by hand…

I don’t think services are devaluing, like some predict, as a result of generative AI. Just because a service is relatively easy to replicate or vibe-code does not inherently reduce its value. Instead, the opportunity cost experienced by humans becomes more poignant than ever.

Fundamentally, I want to focus on creating and building what comes next, not what already is. I’m happy to pay for software I find valuable and want to use, and enjoy and appreciate. Especially b/c value of time and tokens is higher and broader when building what comes next.

And even if that vision of what comes next doesn’t materialize the success you think it can, the learnings from building what comes next will still be more valuable than the time spent building a replacement of something that already exists. So why waste the time and tokens?

I think one thing that is understated is that the hard parts can feel harder with more delegation. Not only are you attempting to solve hard architectural ideas, you also are constantly solving it in a project in which you don't have the same deep familiarity that we did say a couple years ago. It's like you're always on your first day, but you're given the task of refactoring the universe. At least that's something I have noticed that makes me feel a bit angsty

You heard it here first, MVB - "minimum viable brand". Great conversation between @drewwilson and @NotoriousUSB with some special behind the scenes peaks into what we're building!
We shipped a minimum viable brand this week, on purpose. @drewwilson and @NotoriousUSB talk through the reasoning: What a full brand system actually costs a company at our stage, and why we put that time into the product instead.

Here's the full convo between @NotoriousUSB and I on why we scoped the new @OpacityHQ brand to its essentials, the "minimum viable brand", and what an over-built brand could cost a company at our stage.

As an engineer, we often talk about the problems with “pre-mature optimization”. It’s no surprise that a similar idea exists on the design side with over-polishing a brand. Stay tuned for the full convo!
excited to share some of our thoughts on the @OpacityHQ brand

Everyone's talking about AI-generated HTML. But have you tried giving your sites a zero-config API for saving data, file storage, AI, websockets, etc? We did this at Shopify. Runs on a single VM that costs $200/month, and it's changed the way we work. We call it Quick 👇🧵

Every designer knows the trap of over-polishing the brand before the product is even launched. We chatted about why we did something different this time. Full conversation coming tomorrow.

For many years, I've maintained a cloud-synced directory of notes. Usually I write notes in Markdown. But lately, I've enjoyed generating notes in HTML/CSS using a minimal design system. The presentation and organization is easier and nicer to read.

Some amazing things coming down the pipe! So lucky to be a part of this crew 🙌
As @NotoriousUSB said, “We’re banding back together to fix the internet” :D The @OpacityHQ team has been at this a whole internet thing a while. Shout out to @KaikdbyKai and @OffscreenMag!

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the @OpacityHQ Design Meetup in SF! @Claude_Memory won the Neo! And great to hear everyone's reaction (like @LizTheWhizard and @davidishim) to what we're building!
