How should government shift the dial on promoting better health? In the latest @ippr Progressive Review our national gov team argue for a focus on delivery. The lever-pulling approach from competitive funding pots (see levelling up) isn’t helping. bit.ly/3xO4Vxu

Our new piece for in @ConversationUK for @ResearchTruud. @bates_g and I argue that neither party will succeed on preventative health missions without tackling squalid housing. We call for a comprehensive healthy homes strategy, as proposed by @theTCPA. theconversation.com/awaabs-l…

Good to hear @wesstreeting on #PoliticsLive talking about the need to address the social determinants of health - housing, poverty, education. These add to the pressures facing the NHS. Important to consider health spending in the round, not just the budget for hospitals.

We discuss that while these policy areas have important health implications, health rarely appears to be a factor behind them nor is it usually included within policy aims or outcomes. Factors such as economic growth and productivity are far more prominent.

@bates_g: "Specifically, we draw on evidence from the TRUUD project to demonstrate how changing the quality of the urban environment - for example, action to improve housing conditions, increase social connectivity, and reduce congestion and air pollution - can prevent disease."
