đ First report of Tomato leaf curl New Delhi #virus (ToLCNDV) in tomato in #Nepal @khahka_22
ToLCNDV is a highly infectious & devastating disease of vegetable crops in the Indian subcontinent, spread via white fly buff.ly/42qpI4U#NewDiseaseReports#Tomato
ALT Selected region from a photograph of tomato plants. It shows leaf curling and the leaves are purpling from the edges - very diseased plants.
Excited to share my first report on Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus in tomato plants in Nepal. This discovery highlights the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to protect crops from devastating diseases.

Low-cost rotating arm spore traps are ready to be deployed in agricultural fields to catch spores. We look forward to a great season to test our concept on integrating the latest technologies and data science into precise disease management. #virginiatech#southernpiedmontAREC
Ink painting/drawing of tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) symptoms.
N.B. You can find all of my prior paintings here: hgpenningtonart.com
ALT The painting shows a tomato stem, with one cluster of tomatoes and two compound leaves. The red tomatoes are covered in concentric yellow and orange ringspots. The symptoms shown on the leaves are variable, including: darker concentric rings, brown flecks/blotches, leaf âpurplingâ (shown here as a light brown-green colour), normal (green) portions on the base or the tip of some of the leaves, and dark brown necrotised tissue. The tomato fruit and leaves both have spots with ânormal-lookingâ centres, which is a strong indicator that the cause of the spots is a virus. Bacteria and fungal spots rarely have a healthy middle as infection starts at the centre and spreads outwards.
In Nepal, rust is a widespread problem that manifests in different pathotypes and reactions due to genetic diversity and climate change.

Excited to share that I received my training certificate from @JohnInnesCentre for completion of MARPLE diagnostics workshop. It was a wonderful learning experience that gave me valuable insights. Big thanks to my PI @khadka_22 and the organizers.
