Twenty years ago a good friend of mine left his home, a country in a very fragile part of the world, and moved to the United States. I asked him why he chose to come here and in his answer you could see how much he believed in America and the American dream.

What I remember most from that conversation, though, was what he said about his home country – “We’re not stable. We’re always one bad leader away from chaos and anarchy. No one should have to live like that.” I’m sure he is in disbelief and heartbroken today.
