In the middle of an excellent sermon, a Pentecostal pastor in the highlands of Sulawesi asked me to share my testimony of Jesus. I did so simply. It was met with heartfelt Amens and Hallelujahs. It was nice feedback TBH. In my Latter-day Saint services, I vigorously nod assent.
Hot take: I think our church culture is too reverent at times when it can be more energetic and joyful. Ever since I served my mission in the South, I’ve always craved that energetic spirit I felt when I was with people of other faiths. Granted there’s a time and a place for everything, but give me the swaying, clapping, “Thank you Jesus” crowd over the “do you think she’s wearing her garments” crowd any day of the week.

On one side, we risk limiting the influence of the Spirit if we are too staid and strict. On the other hand, we risk replacing the Spirit with theatrics if our joy becomes performative. We must seek the 'sweet spot' with wisdom and sensitivity. There is room for improvement.

As a 1st-year student at a public university in America, I wanted to visit as many faiths as possible, Christian or otherwise. I asked a Baptist friend if I could go to her church with her. She panicked, tried dissuasion, but finally consented on the condition that I stay silent.
I've never actually been invited to church by an Evangelical or Protestant or Catholic. Is that just something only members of Christ's Church are taught to do?

I got two hours of sleep this morning before waking up to get ready for church. I worried that I would doze off in sacrament meeting. Impossible! So much joy. So much love. So much forgiveness. So much Jesus. Our sermons were all on charity, i.e. His love. Powerful!
Nowhere should our joy as a people be more apparent than when we gather together each Sabbath in our sacrament meetings to worship the source of all joy!

They lack the self-awareness to realise it, but the people shouting, 'Mormons aren't Christians', are the angry, blue-haired protestors of the religious world. The vitriol is the same. The behaviour is the same. The motivation is the same. And the outcome is the same.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times anyone was impolite to me during my 2-year mission. Most people were agnostic, followed by Congregational, Catholic, Anglican, and Unitarian. Catholics were often a bit fearful, but others offered us drinks and thanks.
Have you ever been physically assaulted while trying to share your Christian faith? I have. And I would bet a TON of the LDS on this app have. Many people on this app talk a big game, but how many of them have been literally physically assaulted while trying to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world? This app is full of internet warriors who won’t even show their real names. But those boys out there in white shirts and ties are the real deal.

An elderly Evangelical approached us in a busy public square and started screaming about Jesus and Satan being brothers, etc. In the midst of his angry tirade, he clutched his chest and collapsed. After the ambulance took him away, another man said, ‘I don’t think God likes him’.

Another Evangelical threatened to have us arrested. I urged him to ring the police chief. When he hesitated, I egged him on. When the man returned to the door, he said, ‘Alright, boys, you’ve had your fun. Now scram’. The police chief was our bishop and had told him to listen!

Respectfully, we aren't afraid of your hell. Because we have access to the power of Jesus Christ beyond your comprehension.
*One important caveat: Both Islam and Mormonism are Christian heresies, but Mormonism is OUR Christian heresy. Mormonism is distinctly American. Apart from repentance, Mormons will go hell. And yet, if I raised my children in a Mormon neighborhood, they would have likely have the safest and happiest childhood imaginable.

A mate bristled when I insisted sin creates sameness. Years later, he rang to apologise. He’d tried the experiment and, like all others before him, had failed. True individuality is found only in Jesus Christ and His power to refine us. There are infinite ways to be righteous.
“Until you have given up your self to Him you will not have a real self. Sameness is to be found most among the most ‘natural’ men, not among those who surrender to Christ. “How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different are the saints. “The very first step is to try to forget about the self altogether. Your real, new self (which is Christ’s and also yours, and yours just because it is His) will not come as long as you are looking for it. It will come when you are looking for Him. “Keep back nothing. Nothing that you have not given away will be really yours. Nothing in you that has not died will ever be raised from the dead. “Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ, and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.” —C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
