June 7th is my nephew's birthday. He passed away on 12/26/20. Normally, his birthday kicks my ass. We grew up together. Being only 9 months apart, we were more like brothers than anything. Last year was one of those days, and nobody knew it. I may have shared parts of the story before because it's one that shaped who I am today, but that day a fellow community member reached out to me. We'd been talking in VC for a few days talking about life, history, Web3, everything. Just a great fking guy. Funny, thoughtful, and capable of having deep conversations about almost anything. Since my nephew's passing, I've met a lot of incredible people in this space. Some conversations came at exactly the right time when I needed them most. I'm not ashamed to say it, but Web3 has helped me tremendously with the void that was left behind. Without me ever telling him how I was feeling, @beanugz sent me this. To many people it might not seem like much, but to me it meant everything. As someone who loves deeply and tries to show up for others, I cherished the gesture for exactly what it was: kindness with no expectations attached. It's been over a year now, and I still hold this Smoker Spirit Kabu. I've never even considered selling it. The community at @kabuxyz has always been one of my favorites, and moments like this are exactly why. This space isn't just about the NFTs, the charts, or the flips.

"Collectors collect." That's been @mfigge's mantra lately, and we're seeing it play out across the club. Grails trading OTC, people chasing specific traits, and Apes selling above floor because buyers want that Ape. Not just an Ape. You even have Mutants leveling up with a Bored Ape. Love to see it! The recent BAYC member profile updates got me thinking... Wen more robust Collector Dashboard? We've already seen custom member URLs and the "Member Since" addition. But what if we had a proper collector dashboard with badges, milestones, MBA, and achievements earned over time? Two of the coolest collector focused dashboards I've seen were @Azuki's and @okaybears' Three dashboard (RIP). They rewarded things like traits, hold time, collection milestones, and other achievements. You could even earn XP for repping your PFP across social accounts. The XP then translated into raffle tickets earned through holdings, streaks, badges, and other collector activities. Those tickets could be used to enter periodic raffles, creating another fun layer of engagement for collectors. It wasn't about farming rewards. It was about recognizing collectors and giving people more ways to engage with the ecosystem. Would love to see something similar for Apes. Who else would use a Collector Dashboard?

Guys… lately I’ve been seeing some spicy sarcastic posts about being a “2021 OG Ape” after @mfigge mentioned benefits and priorities for long-time holders getting that limited edition cigar box 🥃📦😂 Now, I’m not some Web3 professor with laser eyes and 47 wallets… but I did run a pretty large organization back in the day and now run my own company, so let me give you a real-life perspective most people won’t mention 👀 In business, I’m actually almost NEVER worried about my OG employees leaving. I appreciate them, reward them, and trust them… but my real retention concern is usually the newer talent 🧠⚡ Why? Because the new blood brings: • fresh ideas 💡 • new energy ⚡ • different connections 🤝 • different mindset 🔥 Meanwhile the OGs are usually chillin’, comfortable, and not rage quitting over a free lunch coupon 😂 Of course OG employees often get better perks, bonuses, packages, and priority treatment — kinda like the cigar box thing 🥃📦 — because loyalty matters. But there’s also a fine line between rewarding loyalty and accidentally making newer people feel like they joined the party after all the pizza was gone 🍕😭 And honestly… from a psychological perspective, Web3 communities aren’t THAT different. Yes, newer holders weren’t here 5 years ago. True. But also… newer holders didn’t mint a BAYC for peanuts and watch it do a casual 100 ETH moon mission either 🚀🐒💰 Some OGs are sitting on life-changing profits since mint while some newer holders are holding stronger through losses than OGs ever had to 😅 So maybe being “OG” shouldn’t automatically come with a superiority complex or acting like newer holders are tourists at the club 🤷‍♂️ At the end of the day, both OGs and new holders matter.
