I was fortunate enough to get a private screening of the film, Killers of the Flower Moon earlier this month. Having been marginally released from my NDA with the premiere of the film today at Cannes, I have a few thoughts.
I told my kid that, in nature, red can often be a signal that an animal has venom, and that it means “stay away”, and she immediately replied “no, red means KILL IT”, and from the predator perspective she’s so right
I was trying to explain how an animal who eats the wrong animal can be poisoned so it’s like a safety signal but she was like “so you eliminate the red ones with extreme prejudice ok”
I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but some people pee every time they poop and some people can separate poops from peeing, and when you are one type you often don’t realize there’s another type
(me as a teen) “there was something magical about my grandmother’s kitchen. an ineffable sense of family, almost the odor of the palimpsest of time itself”

That “profile” included “no prenatal care”. We’d just moved to OR and my CA doc had changed phone numbers, so they thought I was lying (and undocumented).
After I gave birth, some nuns came in to gently speak to me. “We understand you have no insurance?” I had Oregon Health.
