and thanks to @IOpartnership, @Meta industry teams for feedback/expertise!
3) Two scam centres in Cambodia, one focusing on romance scams, the other on task scams.
We found one through proactive investigation. H/t @meta for alerting us to the other.
As part of our proactive investigative work, we recently detected and banned a cluster of ChatGPT accounts that appeared to be originating in Cambodia and engaging in translating and generating comments.
We're dedicated to identifying, preventing, and disrupting attempts to abuse our models, and welcome Meta’s sharing of threat information about the scam centers they have disrupted.
OUT TODAY: @OpenAI's update on disrupting deceptive uses of AI.
Featuring case studies of cyber operations, covert influence ops and deceptive networks that we disrupted from around the world:

Some of the operations we disrupted and reported on here were first exposed by other investigative teams. Some, as far as we know, were previously unreported.
Some of them, we discovered *because* we use AI in our investigations.
Final point: none of the operations we identified so far looked like it achieved viral breakout or audience engagement because of its use of AI. Social media are a tough environment.
But we’ll keep hunting, and keep reporting what we find.
What we didn’t see was this use of AI translating into meaningfully increased audience reach.
All five operations we disrupted scored 1 or 2 on the Breakout Scale, out of a maximum of 6.

And distribution matters. AI-generated material has to be distributed if it’s going to reach an audience.
Even when it is distributed on social media, presence is not the same thing as impact. This was one of many similar replies to a Doppelganger attempt on 9GAG.
This is our first report on IO. So far, the situation is evolution, not revolution.
That could change. It’s important to keep watching and keep sharing.
