Jesus Wasn't Woke. Jesus Wasn't a Socialist.
If you actually read the Bible for understanding instead of cherry-picking verses for political bumper stickers, you'd realize Scripture is fundamentally ANTI-SOCIALIST. But that would require cracking open the book instead of just weaponizing it on social media, and I know that's asking a lot from folks who think "Love your neighbor" means "Vote to spend your neighbor's money."
THE RICH YOUNG RULER (Matthew 19:16-26)
Progressive Christians love this one. Jesus told the rich man to sell HIS possessions and give to the poor HIMSELF. Not "lobby Caesar for wealth redistribution programs." Not "vote for politicians promising free stuff funded by other people's labor."
And here's what fries the woke crowd's circuits: when the man refused, JESUS LET HIM WALK AWAY. No government mandate. No forced redistribution. No safety net. Jesus understood not everyone enters the narrow gate, and He wasn't about to create a bureaucracy to drag them through it.
The disciples asked, "Then who can be saved?" Jesus said with GOD all things are possible. Notice He didn't say "with government programs all things are possible."
WORK ETHIC, NOT HANDOUTS
2 Thessalonians 3:10 - "If anyone is NOT WILLING to work, let him not eat." Paul wasn't talking about the disabled. He specifically said "NOT WILLING" - able-bodied freeloaders.
1 Timothy 5:8 - Anyone who doesn't provide for his household "has denied the faith and is WORSE THAN AN UNBELIEVER." That's Scripture calling out people who expect others to carry their weight.
Proverbs 10:4 - "Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth." Proverbs 6:6-11 - Go learn from the ANT, you sluggard.
VOLUNTARY CHARITY vs GOVERNMENT THEFT
2 Corinthians 9:7 - "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, NOT RELUCTANTLY OR UNDER COMPULSION, for God loves a cheerful giver."
NOT UNDER COMPULSION. Taxation for redistribution IS compulsion by definition. When government takes your money at gunpoint and gives it to someone else, that's not charity - that's coercion with extra steps.
The gleaning laws (Leviticus 19:9-10) left some harvest for the poor, but THE POOR HAD TO WORK FOR IT. They gathered it themselves. Dignity through labor, not dependency.
THE EARLY CHURCH WASN'T COMMUNIST
Socialists love Acts 2 and 4. But Acts 5:4 - Peter told Ananias the property was "yours to do with as you wished." VOLUNTARY. Church-based, not government-enforced. You can't share what you don't own.
JESUS HEALED PEOPLE SO THEY COULD WORK
Jesus didn't hand out money to beggars. He HEALED them so they could make their own living. The blind received sight. The lame received working legs. The demon-possessed received sound minds. Jesus restored people to PRODUCTIVITY, not dependency.
The feeding of the 5,000 wasn't welfare - it was a demonstration to His disciples. And when the crowd came back for more free food (John 6), Jesus REBUKED THEM: "You seek me because you ate your fill." He refused to become their welfare provider.
BORDERS ARE BIBLICAL
Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem's walls with GATES that CLOSED at night. There were GUARDS. There was a SELECTION PROCESS.
Acts 17:26 - God "marked out their appointed times and the BOUNDARIES of their lands." National boundaries are divinely established.
Leviticus 24:22 - The foreigner had to FOLLOW THE LAW. Sound familiar?
PRIVATE PROPERTY IS BIBLICAL
Exodus 20:15 - "You shall not steal." Assumes people OWN things. Exodus 20:17 - "Do not covet your neighbor's house." HIS property, not the collective's. Matthew 20:15 - "Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me?"
GOVERNMENT'S LIMITED ROLE
Romans 13 describes government punishing evil - NOT redistributing wealth or running healthcare.
1 Samuel 8:10-18 WARNS about rulers who "take the best of your fields." That's OPPRESSION, not progress. God literally warned Israel this would happen.
THE UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH
By global standards, nearly every American is the rich young ruler. You have smartphones, climate control, and refrigerators that ancient kings couldn't imagine.
If you're demanding government programs funded by OTHER PEOPLE'S money while living comfortably yourself, you're the rich young ruler walking away - except you're demanding Caesar force others to give what you won't sacrifice yourself.
Jesus called for PERSONAL transformation and VOLUNTARY generosity from changed hearts. Socialism demands GOVERNMENT control and FORCED redistribution.
These are fundamentally incompatible. Pick one.
But what do I know? I'm just someone who reads Scripture in context instead of weaponizing isolated verses while ignoring everything that contradicts my predetermined political agenda.
