Thanks @dindshenchas & @Department_ASNC … doing serious work on a topic I’m just skimming the surface of here 😉
We congratulate @Department_ASNC alumnus, Ben Webb, whose poem 'Dindsenchas' has been published in Poetry Ireland Review 136 (p. 89) @poetryireland

Cannot be emphasised enough.. beef farming is just a big no, no matter the method:/
#RegenesisFact 4. This one will come as a shock to many people. Unless I’ve missed something, there is no major farm product as environmentally damaging as organic, pasture-fed beef. Here’s the reasoning: 🧵

Really grateful/chuffed to have a poem in this great journal… and can’t wait to read all the other poems that were included!

Wow this video really seems like a pinnacle of British Media bankruptcy. Basically: global warming dangers - insulate britain - “do you insulate your home?” - “that’s the problem, i can’t afford to & don’t own a home” - “shut up then” ... 🤔
I despair that a meteorologist (rightly! rarely on British TV!) talking about the dangerous heat in India as a tangible current effect of climate change is *immediately* followed by this absolute inane culture war drivel.

The situation for the Conservative Party is worse than you think. The difficulty lies, however, in explaining how serious it is without falling into the language of hyperbole. So, I shall simply list some developments as dispassionately as I can. 🧵

This is a crucial thread, that casts light on what it is to live on Russia's border, and on the game Putin is playing. It's the most interesting thing I've read so far on Ukraine.
Greetings from a Finnish leftist! The international situation has apparently left many people in the English-speaking countries confused. I write this thread in the hopes of sharing a perspective I believe is widely if not unilaterally shared in Finland, most leftists included.

So much admiration for these folks… not only ecological, but trying to bring healthy food to people in food poverty, in a nation where (you may have heard) there are more food banks than McDonald’s restaurants theguardian.com/environment/…

RIP Lata Mangeshkar - Lag Jaa Gale youtu.be/TFr6G5zveS8, a song of parting, of valuing the time we have. Whenever I was sad, her voice lifted me up, even though I had no idea what it meant. „Embrace me, for this beautiful evening may not come again…“

This is just boring now. How do the DUP think this ends? All we've had from the DUP & Sinn Fein has been collapse & threats to collapse. Maybe get on with running the place. You'd almost think it suited them to keep the focus off their joint lack of delivery for our communities.

The politicians decrying Covid restrictions abet and conceal the real losses of freedom: because freedom is not a thing they believe in, but a word that they use.

Rural Germany Life: interrupted from the late Tony Sher’s Macbeth (on YouTube till tomorrow) by Feliz Navidad blasting from a cavalcade of Christmas Rave Tractors - lasting for 20 minutes…- then return to Macbeth. Because it’s great, albeit tractorless, go watch ‘fore it go!!

I’ve seen some disturbing things in my time, but the howling silence in most of the UK media about the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, whose measures include stifling protest and legislative cleansing of Gypsies, Roma and Travellers, is close to the top of the list.

Burgon points out that talking about China having “tentacles” around the world could fuel hatred, suggests we use per capita emissions instead of total emissions to assign climate blame. The Tory screams “Stop defending China!!”. Britain’s liberals all applaud.
This is an astonishing watch on @IainDale's show tonight.

Wow, absolutely amazing story that after years of rock-docs I had never heard of! That in itself says something, but the story itself feels really profound, especially in contrast to The Beatles‘s... youtu.be/k1QqLCpXMIw

Am I the only noticing a general resurgence in doomism, a deflated / frustrated sort of helplessness around fossil fuels and climate? I *really* get why these feelings are hitting hard but I'm telling you folks: the fossil fuel industry is more vulnerable than it ever has been
