There’s like 6-7 NYC infra founders I occasionally get drinks with and ~50% of them just got acquired: - @graphite - @astral_sh - @StainlessAPI Congrats!! 🍻

I have had a weird theory for years that Uber fits their ETA model using mean absolute error regression instead of ordinary least squares. Since wait-times have a long right tail, this will cause a bias that underestimates mean wait times (median < mean).
Standard experience booking an Uber “5 minutes away” I order it “Finding your driver…” “Pickup in 7 minutes” I open my timer 9 minutes and 21 seconds later, it arrives This is so tedious and I am tired of being deceived at the margin

I think the AI layoffs are real but in a weird way – it’s about reallocating resources to AI. Either within the company (Meta, Microsoft), or because capital markets are rotating out of traditional software (Duolingo, Klarna, etc) towards “AI stocks”

I.e. has nothing to do with productivity gains, just traditional software being perceived as lower return on invested capital vs buying GPUs etc

Does anyone remember the original x.ai? I used it for a while (in 2015?) and it didn't work super well, but it was a decent idea and would probably be very easy to build today.

The longer form of why I joined @modal and new home to personal writing adamazzam.com/2026/joining-m…
Two big updates on my end: 1. I’m moving on from @PrefectIO after three wonderful years. 2. I started this week at @modal as Member of Product Staff. I’m so incredibly grateful to @jlowin , Chris White, Thomas Egbert and the team at Prefect. I got to build world class open source software and be a part of Prefect and @fastmcp's vertical growth. Three years ago I joined Modal as a user. It was March 2023 and I was two days into a losing fight with ECS. @PhysicsBliss told me to check out Modal. @bernhardsson replied to my signup email in two minutes; by that night, days of work had collapsed into hours. Modal sparked joy and I was preaching the gospel to anyone who would listen. That didn’t stop when I joined Prefect. It’s rare to find kindred spirits, who share your scar tissue, who think about software and developer experience the way you do. Unsurprisingly then, Modal was my default recommendation to customers and I kept working with Erik, @akshat_b and @charles_irl to build integrations and do events together. So I'm making it official. I get to do full-time what I've been doing as a fan for three years: help people build without friction and turn months of work into hours. I couldn't be more excited to build alongside Erik, Akshat, Charles, and the whole team. Here's to the next chapter.

Introducing NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Ultra. A frontier smart open model built for long-running agents that need to plan, reason, use tools and keep working across complex coding, research and enterprise workflows. Up to 5x faster inference and up to 30% lower cost for agentic tasks. Learn more: nvda.ws/4x9nGps

I love to see @modal being used for biology and cutting-edge research like this. Very cool work from the team at @biohub to push open models forward in protein design and comp bio. Here's how to run it on Modal: modal.com/docs/examples/esmf…
I’m so excited about the launch of ESMFold2, ESMC, and the new ESM Atlas. This was a massive team effort, and I’m grateful to have worked with such an incredible group @biohub. A headline result I’m especially excited about: ESMFold2 can design minibinders and antibodies with nanomolar affinity, target selectivity, and functional activity against therapeutically relevant targets. Today, we’re sharing the full binder design protocol.

How to design your own PD-1 binder in 4 easy steps: 1. Download the tutorial notebook from the ESM team 2. Get a @modal API key to scale it up 3. Scaling it up, O($1000) will get you a 96 well plate of minibinders with >50% success rates on typical targets 4. Test it in the lab!

RL these days generally requires three things: inference, training, and sandboxes. I wonder what AI infrastructure provider has all three?

Reinforcement learning has exploded on Modal, and we've been cooking. Here's a review of lessons learned helping teams train at scale, the patterns we kept seeing, and an open-source library to get started with RL on Modal quickly.

I personally don’t care but these vehicles must be some sort of weird classification loophole right? The pedals seem basically fake (provide about 0.01% of the energy) and they go everywhere on streets and sidewalks.

My opinion on tokenmaxxing is companies shouldn’t mandate/constrain any tools at all and then evaluate software developers by output / (salary token use)

Agents do a lot more than just write code now, and infrastructure guardrails need to keep up. Role-Based Access Control is now available to all Workspaces on Team and Enterprise plans.

ClickHouse is a very good product imo!
Congrats to @modal on their $355M Series C! 🎉 clickhou.se/4v1DPLN We wrote last November about the ClickHouse-powered dashboards their customers use to watch AI jobs run in real time - 500B logs, 1–2M events/min, P90 at ~420ms.

We're honored to deepen our partnership with @modal and co-lead their $355M Series C! When @bernhardsson and @akshat_b started Modal in 2021, they had conviction that building a truly great cloud for AI meant rebuilding the entire stack from the ground up. Five years later, that bet has paid off. Erik built the recommendation system behind Discover Weekly at Spotify. Akshat was an early engineer at Scale AI before joining Erik as co-founder and CTO. Together, they've assembled what one engineer affectionately calls "a monastery for super nerds" and it shows in the product. Modal has become the high-performance cloud that serious AI teams reach for when they need to ship. We couldn't be more excited to continue backing them. Huge congratulations to Erik, Akshat, and the entire Modal team!

Today we're announcing our Series C funding: $355M at a $4.65B valuation, led by some great investors @generalcatalyst and @Redpoint. We've had insane growth in the last year, but we're still very early. So proud of the team and what we have built so far!
