I would highly recommend Andreas Herrmann's "GHC Hacking Newcomer Guide" talk to anyone looking to get started hacking on GHC; it's a wealth of information communicated clearly and succinctly. #haskell #compiler #hacking youtube.com/watch?v=s9DkByHS…

Me, on Virginia Public Radio: “This is really the first time that automakers are being told that they will need to take into account pedestrian safety in the physical design of their vehicles. This has never actually happened before in America.” wvtf.org/news/2024-09-25/wit…

Finally, the Biden administration is taking a stand against car bloat. @NHTSAgov has proposed banning SUV & pickup hood designs that are especially likely to cause head injuries. In @FastCompany, I explained why this could be a watershed moment. 🧵 fastcompany.com/91195993/car…

Chipmakers puting AI cores in your CPU and not letting you use them for absolutely anything is the biggest waste of silicon in the history of modern computing. Those tensor cores are godsend for things like large-scale CAD simulations but there's absolutely no way to access them

The four questions I was taught to ask before writing something are: - Is it clear? - Is it true? - Is it necessary? - Is it kind? They're not all needed at all times, and they conflict, but I think you should think carefully before dropping any of them. Especially kindness.

GHC 9.10.1 is at long last released! Between the continued iteration on the GHC20xx meta-extension mechanisms, further improvements in the JS/wasm backends, and (my favorite) the availability of exception backtraces in `base`, there is lots to be excited about. #haskell

The GHC 9.10.1 release candidate is now available for download! So far this has been a rather uneventful pre-release cycle bug-wise. Moreover, with relatively little breakage in the library space, I'm hopeful that this will be an easy migration. discourse.haskell.org/t/ghc-…

The #Haskell exception backtrace proposal is very close to completion. However, we could use your feedback on handling of nested exceptions. Library authors: please leave yours thoughts on the designs proposed in this comment: github.com/ghc-proposals/ghc…
