Calling hard working folks, 'privileged' has become a fashion.
There are 15/16 year old general category kids, who study 14-15 hours/day to crack difficult exams.
Yes, they do have the privilege of: food, shelter, and an opportunity to study.
That is what the role of the state is: to provide those opportunities to each and every citizen. And, that is what the demand should be.
The moment we start confusing : equality of outcomes, with equality of opportunities, it becomes a curse for the nation. And, that is what we are currently witnessing.
If the goal is to ensure equality of outcomes?
Here is a simpler model-
We should simply collect taxes. And, make an equal transfer to everyone's accounts.
That way we will have absolute equality of outcomes. Why even go through the hoopla of college seats bifurcation, job reservation --- if the eventual goal is equal distribution of resources?
You know what that will do too? It will kill incentive to work.
And, that is precisely what caste based reservation does. And, has done to states like Bihar in India.
And, therefore, almost all people who can migrate-- do-- both from state and nation where merit is not rewarded.
