On this day in 2002, Hugo Chavez is overthrown in a coup backed by the George W. Bush Administration, bringing in a right-wing coup regime that rescinded many of the reforms Hugo Chavez introduced which benefitted millions of poor Venezuelans. The coup regime would be short-lived, as loyalists in the Venezuelan military worked to return Chavez to power. Supporters of Chavez and the Bolivarian revolution surrounded the Presidential Palace in Miraflores and demanded his return. Chavez returned to power after just two days, triumphant in the latest episode of class war in Venezuela🇻🇪. CIA asset Maria Corina Machado signed the 2002 order by one of the coup leaders Pedro Carmona to destroy Venezuelan democracy by dissolving the National Assembly, the Supreme Court, and the Bolivarian constitution which had been approved by a popular referendum in 1999 which expanded indigenous, economic and social rights. ‘The real cause of misery, poverty, and exclusion is capitalism.
