Such a treasure trove. Also proves that the Basmalah was indeed brought by Rasulullah (SAW). These sites should be preserved. Someone in Saudi needs to work with the govt and make this a tourism destination.
An inscription attributed to Sayyidunā Ḥanẓalah ibn Abī ʿĀmir (رضي الله عنه), the Companion known as “the one washed by the angels,” has been discovered near Ṭāʾif.
The inscription reads:
“In Your name, our Lord, I am Ḥanẓalah ibn ʿAbd ʿAmr. I commend myself to the righteousness of Allah.”
This inscription appears to date to before Ḥanẓalah’s acceptance of Islam, as he is identified by his pre-Islamic name Ḥanẓalah ibn ʿAbd ʿAmr rather than the name by which he became known after Islam.
It is also noteworthy that the inscriptions begin with “Bismika Rabbanā” (“In Your name, our Lord”) rather than the Islamic basmalah “Bismillāh al-Raḥmān al-Raḥīm.”
This formula is known from pre-Islamic and early Arabian inscriptions and reflects a stage prior to the widespread adoption of the Qurʾānic basmalah.
