In todayโs market, landing that first software engineering role has never been tougher for junior and recent graduates. I hear it every day from my own students: some are celebrating offers, but many are still struggling.
It's true, it's harder than a few years ago. But itโs far from impossible. Iโve seen countless of my ALX and Holberton students secure positions. Most of the time, the difference between those who find a job and those who do not comes down to treating the job search as its own skillset, separate from coding. Knowing how to write code is only half the battle. You have to know how to network strategically, craft a compelling resume and online profile, structure your interview prep, and stay disciplined with job application (amount, quality and followโups). That isย what really moves the needle. Not being 5% better at Javascript.
This is what my wife
@Sophie_RB42 has seen while building Holberton, and what she continues to witness today. Thatโs why she, with the help of
@_MariemEhab (one my ALX ex-student - very proud of her!) built
OctoPrep.ai: an 8โweek, cohortโbased course that teaches you the complete jobโsearch toolkit. Youโll learn to:
- Research and target opportunities efficiently
- Optimize your resume, LinkedIn, and GitHub to stand out
- Practice interviews in a structured, dataโdriven way; and not just the interview itself, but everything that comes before and after
- Track your progress and stay on schedule
If you are looking a job in tech as a fresh grad or junior, I strongly recommend this program. Cohortโฏ1 wrapped up with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Students report a real mindset shift and feel armed with the tools to land a role faster. Cohortโฏ2 kicks off Septemberโฏ1. You can sign up here:

If you have questions, join her Twitter/X Space on Tuesday, Julyโฏ22. Register and set reminder here:

This isnโt a magic bullet, but for those who commit, Iโm confident it will cut your timeโtoโoffer dramatically. Give your job search the structure it deserves.
