Let's talk about the silent protagonist in VR games. The vast majority of VR games tend to go with the silent protagonist, assumingly because they want the player to feel like they are the character. Do you prefer to have zero dialogue from the character you are playing as or would you rather full voice acting for the character you play? For me I love becoming a new character so I like full voice acting. It adds a lot to the story if done right and it feels way more real, because I don't know about you but I'm not normally talking and responding out loud while I'm playing. Games like Arizona Sunshine and Batman Arkham Shadow are great examples. Any other examples you have?

I was right in the middle of using Fable 5 to help with coding a new mixed reality game 🤣

It before anyone says I shouldn't have shared it if I didn't want people to use it.... All you have to do is search Google or Reddit and it is easily available.

This new Quest 3 game is just $1.99 and it's doing some crazy things. Yes it's another zombie game and the gameplay loop is essentially a time based wave survival game BUT it's doing some impressive things. Look at the bloom and lighting and the amount of zombies, AND the fact that you get thrown from a helicopter to start the game is pretty amazing. For $1.99? This is well worth checking out. It's not perfect but it's cool and the visuals are actually pretty darn impressive. I saw the trailer and I was sure it was lying that it was Quest 3 footage.

It's honestly so freaking depressing to see the slaughter of the VR gaming industry. Every day new studios are shutting down or laying off staff or cancelling games or shifting focus to "more sustainable game models" which I totally get. Doesn't mean I like that almost every game has to be free to play and filled with childish humor just to make money. I'm an overly positive person and my content has always reflected that but dang it's getting hard to stay super positive in this space these days. It feels like VR gaming has it's head held under the water and is struggling to hold it's breath and not drown. We have such an amazing back log of content on Quest so that is a huge benefit and indie devs still pushing and modders are doing the work we all want....but man it sucks. I wish I had millions of dollars to pump into making epic VR games.

I know it shouldn't bother me when I go to tag someone I thought I was friends with and had been very friendly with in the past just to find out they had unfollowed me but it does...😢 Can't please everyone I guess. Oh well.

New video is out now, go check it out! It's a 24 minute monster of a video essay that I had a lot of fun putting together. I'm hoping I can do more videos like this.

I absolutely love that you can play retro flat games from several consoles and handhelds native on the Quest 3 without any type of side loading required with this new application Retro Game Dev VR. You have to source your own backups of the games but I love it. And the room looks fantastic on Quest 3 too. You can play at a desk on a small CRT monitor on your large CRT TV or on a handheld while laying in bed. Oh and spatial audio too.

Are you a VR dev that is pushing the boundaries for Quest 3 visuals and what's possible on the Quest 3 for an upcoming game or project? I'm working on a new series and I'd love to hear about it!

I know nothing about retro handheld gaming consoles these days. But I want to put together a collection of retro handhelds based on each retro console/ handheld. For instance, I want one that looks like a GBA that I just have GBA games loaded on, one that looks like a DS that just has DS games, PSP, also PS1 and PS2. Sounds weird I know but I'd love to be able to grab a single handheld and have the games from that system only. Would be amazing if it played physical media as well for cartridges but if not that's ok for now. Give me your suggestions please.

Proof the Meta Quest store is still a mess. This is a listing for "Rec Room" which was just shut down. Take a closer look at the studio who makes it and the images of the "game" which look suspiciously like some type of gorilla tag clone šŸ˜’. This was just published recently on the quest store. And to make things worse and has 182 reviews 4.5 stars which is more than a lot of actual well-deserving games have.

VR is in such a strange place right now. It used to be we had flat games that were getting VR ports, now we've got VR games that are getting flat ports šŸ˜…. There are a few games I'm genuinely excited for coming to VR but much fewer than in the past. I just love VR and I wish it had taken off more so we could continue to get AAA VR experiences. 😭 Not because I want content but because VR is the one medium I enjoy and want to choose to spend my single player gaming time in. I grew up a massive flat gamer and my biggest dream is for VR games to be at the same consistent level of quality as flat games some day and that it would be successful and sustainable for VR devs.

I think this might be the first and only VR game that I've seen in the IGN summer of gaming, but I can't wait to play it. Into the dead is coming to to quest 3 next year and it looks like it's going to be a room scale VR game using your MR room scan to create a real horror game. They call it hyper reality. We need more games like this.

I totally get VR studios doing this and think it's awesome new people will be able to experience the game outside of VR...at the same time I could never play it flat having played it in VR. Sorry I just would constantly be comparing the two šŸ˜….
Even during the apocalypse, the sun still rises in Arizona. First time you'll be able to see it like this. Coming this year to #PC, #PS5, Nintendo #Switch2 & #Xbox Series X|S Grab it here ā¬‡ļø arizona-sunshine.com
