That was the first thing I thought! “Mature enough” to access MAiD but not to be on social media? We are deeply unserious. Disabled teens won’t have any support (rare to get it in real life) and then will get MAiD pushed on them.

This social media ban for teens under 16 in Canada is wild considering the Parlimentary committee recommended in 2023 to expand MAID to "mature minors" which is 14 - 18. So to the Canadian government, no social media at age 14, but yes to MAID use? How does that make sense.

@lesliechurch When will the government of Canada be adopting the recommendations from this UN CRPD Report including repealing MAiD track 2? ohchr.org/en/meeting-summari…

I am sick of being lectured by able-bodied politicians about how inclusive and accessible canada says it is. The reality is quite shameful. Maybe ask us what disabled people actually experience instead of making up some fantasy about how great it is to be disabled in canada.

UN CRPD: Canada is violating the rights of disabled folks. Repeal MAID Track 2. Make the woefully inadequate Canada Disability Benefit adequate. Canada: *ignores report, no response* *1 year later* Canada: "we are proud of our track record with disability!" Disabled folks: 🤯

To everyone who continuously calls out the ableism and blatant eugenics in Canada's disability legislation – thank you. I see you. Please know your community sees and appreciates you 🫂

also, I will bet that take a selfie and take a photo of ID will almost certainly not be accessible so will exclude some more people as well. things like verrify.me and others are a real barrier.

This will impact more than just Canadians under 16, this will harm Canadians with photo exempt ID who won't be able to prove their identity to gain access to digital spaces resulting in the most vulnerable who often have photo exempt IDs to be more isolated from society

There is an abundance of evidence, reports, data, first-hand accounts pertaining to Canada's MAID regime violating rights and the state pushing death on disabled people. Despite all of this, there are still people who adamantly deny it. Because they aren't forced to live it.

I laugh when avid Pro-MAIDers say they are for compassion, empathy and understanding surrounding death – then hold absolutely none when it comes to actually speaking to those actively impacted by it. No. You are for romanticizing a false reality while blatantly ignoring ours.

I know this too well. It's because propaganda has worked. People aren't even aware that MAID for those disabled not near death has been active since 2021. Nor that the next expansion (sole condition mental illness) has already passed and is set for March 17 2027. But we are.

I signed and would be happy to have my name and story published. I get others do not but I would love to go on the record with this.
I'm no longer a resident of BEY, but I *strongly* encourage any current residents to sign this letter and think hard about the pretty crappy representation we received from Bradley over the years, and whether he deserves this promotion (no, imo)

Over 140 Beaches–East York residents (and counting) have signed an open letter calling on Torontonians to reject Brad Bradford's bid for mayor and they asked us to help share their message. Here's why 🧵 Read full letter and sign on here: progresstoronto.ca/bey-lette…

I don't need people to wear a red shirt, I need you to fight for me to have a livable income so I don't die from starvation or homelessness. Inclusive communities make sure disabled people have enough to eat & maintain shelter. Every level of the gov is killing me with neglect
Everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed, contribute and be valued for who they are. Today, we wear red to show our support for people living with disabilities, celebrate their contributions, and reaffirm our commitment to breaking down barriers.

ODSP is $1408 max with a $26 max increase next month. For all costs. Rent, meds, therapy, food, transportation, everything. That is provincial legislated destitution. And with MAID available exclusive to us, it's a direct funnel to our deaths. Fuck Doug Ford and Fuck Ontario.

How can Canada still push AccessAbility Week so hard when Carney eliminated the federal disability ministry last year? When multiple pieces of federal disability legislation are being called out by UN, disabled folks, doctors and disability orgs? Disabled eugenics is active!

You wanna remove barriers "Together" ? Fine, lets go. Severely Disabled Ontarians greatest barrier is Deep Poverty that they can't escape by way of work, because they CAN'T work. Will you remove this barrier ? Because right now, it's the ONLY one that matters. @ONSocialService
