Apologies to those who follow me for climate or comp sci, or my rare celebrations of kiwi sport, but the pomgolian political (covid brexit greenwashing corruption lying) situation is INFURIATING. I can't help tweeting and retweeting about it. I have to howl into the wind!
You know you want to know about #eve4climate! You do, don't you? Well if you do, you'll have to head over to my mastodon feed to find out about the last couple of days here in Berlin (yes, it's bnlawrence@mastodon.nz)!
The ENES community has just published a public draft of their "infrastructure strategy for climate modelling", which covers everything from hpc, to software and people.
We're very keen on comments. Details on my blog here: bnlawrence.net/science/2023/β¦

Those of you escaping to Post may need to consider which is the frying pan and which is the fire.
Meanwhile all the BS about mastodon being difficult to use is just that. Iβve had more and better interaction on mastodon in a month than I had in the last year in twitter.
So this place is suspending journalist accounts, and blocking links to the other place. Itβs apparently unsafe to link to the elephant site.
The walls on this walled garden are shrinking, and the stench is growing.
I have just about finished my great unfollowing here.
Im starting my cull of those who I follow on twitter, looking to see you on mastodon! (Im not following anyone here any more, this is just tidying up).
The spatial resolution of simulations of cumulus clouds has improved a lot from the first simulation in 1976 until now. Watch how the detail level increases with resolution. #microhh#cfd#clouds#fluiddynamics
I have the same feeling I felt when I left facebook. I know Iβm going to miss some people and conversations, but Iβll meet some of you over there, and Iβll meet new people, and in new ways.
It appears that in 24h I have gone from being sceptical about mastodon to only coming back here to see who has moved, and hope the rest of you move soon, itβs really quite easy and quite familiar once you realise you can follow anyone from any instance.
So tripling my subscription should have only one result, but it's quite cunning to stop me being able to login, and telling me that phone support is a feature I don't have. @SurveyMonkey you've lost my business, but I will pursue you for my data!
Two days shy of a year since my hip replacement & Garmin tells me I have just exceeded 1500km of exercise walking, so of course some celebratory geek behaviour (plotting) was in order: after the first month or so, I have settled into an average walk of 5km at just over 6km/hr.
I am sorting my dashcam footage from last couple of month and got to my car journey from Glasgow to Helsinki and I thought it can show you nicely what Brexit means
(a small π§΅)
Twitter is mucking with my dreams. It was nice of @REasther to offer me, as an economic refugee from the UK, a postdoc in unaffordable Auckland working on the influence of gene migration on the role of immunity in galaxy formation and dark matter under a range of SSPs and RCPs.
