Five dimensional chess doesn’t exist. Everyone is furiously improvising all the time. The future is utterly uncertain.

This seems important…
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Really fun profile from Evan. @bwertz & @angelatytran fight relentlessly for founders because they know what it takes to build. That’s obvious if you’ve ever worked with them. The story of how they became partners - less obvious. Two amazing people I’m lucky to call friends.
New on The Hard Part: The Underdog for Underdogs A long-form profile on Boris Wertz (@bwertz), Angela Tran (@angelatytran), and Version One Ventures (@VersionOneVC). I spent the last couple of months reporting this, speaking with founders, co-investors, LPs, and people close to the firm. Version One has backed Jobber, Ada, Coinbase, Uniswap, Shippo, Outreach, Moment Energy, Patch, EtherFi, and more. But the story is what happened before the companies were obvious. Link to read below!

Enter Bending Spoons. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree, this sets a strong tone for the type of company they're building and how they succeed.

Tough beat for @internetvin. Hearing he was runner up headliner.

Probably underappreciated: every public market dollar raised by Alphabet, OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX…is a dollar that does not go to a competitor. It may seem like it now, but capital is not infinite.
On Monday we announced an equity offering for Alphabet - part of our multi-year investment strategy to meet the AI opportunity ahead and support the demand we’re seeing from enterprises and consumers. Pleased to share the offering was well over-subscribed. We raised a total of ~$45B, with an additional $40B to come as part of an ā€œat the marketā€ program starting in Q3 (for a total of ~ $85B). A huge thank you to our investors, including Berkshire Hathaway who invested $10B.

Excited to share that we've closed two new funds at @VersionOneVC: Fund V ($78M) and Opportunities Fund III ($30M). Our focus remains the same — backing exceptional founders early, often before a category is obvious or crowded. We're investing globally at pre-seed/seed across AI, robotics, deep tech, biology, decentralized systems, and emerging ecosystems like India and Africa. The founders we're most drawn to aren't chasing trends — they're mission-driven people with unusual insight solving problems they understand intimately. Many of the most important companies of the next decade will initially look misunderstood or too early. That's where we want to be. Thank you to our LPs and community for their continued support. And above all, to the founders who give us the opportunity to be part of their journeys.

We continue to invest globally at pre-seed and seed, leading or co-leading rounds and partnering closely through the earliest and messiest stages of company building.

Exceptional early founders: two of the most exceptional investors, @angelatytran and @bwertz, are back with Fund V. Excited for all the partnerships that will be built with this. Congrats @VersionOneVC !!!

Shopify started doing this in 2012.
more than ever, our scaling companies are hiring founders. they are ambitious to drive pace and grow fitter organizations, which requires distributed decision making (...more agency and ownership, better judgement)

Thrilled to welcome @jmwind to the Spellbook team. JML is one of the top technical executives in the world, having worked with Shopify as CTO and Atlassian as VP Engineering, bringing them both to IPO back-to-back. Over the past year, I’ve been lucky to have him as a mentor and advisor. He is one of the most impressively ā€œ30,000 foot viewā€ ā€œin the weedsā€ people I’ve ever met. In the same hour he can code a prototype and deliver deep insight about how to scale our culture & process. This makes him uniquely suited for the role he is pioneering: Executive IC. AI enables people like JML to scale themselves 100x without getting bogged down in layers of management. We aim to write the playbooks for tomorrow, rather than to execute the playbooks of yesterday. We think that org charts will change radically in the next decade, and we want to get far ahead of it. JML will pioneer the systems that scale our AI-native org, will deliver product and technical insight from decades of experience and help grow myself and our executive team. I recommend following him if you are curious how AI-native orgs will operate–he is writing a playbook for the decade to come: @jmwind theglobeandmail.com/business…
