Reflection on Ethiopian election
The 7th General Election of Ethiopia was a landmark moment in the country’s democratic journey. More than 54 million Ethiopians took part in the election, with approximately 50,388 polling stations operating across the country and 42 political parties participating in the process.
The peaceful conduct of the election and the massive public turnout reflected the Ethiopian people’s strong commitment to shaping their future through democratic means. It demonstrated a growing belief that political differences can be resolved through dialogue, elections, and constitutional processes rather than violence. Beyond the electoral results, the election reinforced the foundations of democratization and sent a powerful message that lasting political change is best achieved through the will of the people expressed at the ballot box not bullet.
