I didn't do any proper writing today, but I did put together an 800-word plan for the next three chapters of my novel. Onwards! 💪

So don't get me wrong. There are books I didn't love, but that I still admire, and which are unforgettable. This being a prime example:

One of the best books of the 21st century? Seriously? I'm two thirds through this book and it does nothing to me. Those who have read it, what do you think?

I love Léon Victor Dupré, and I've been scouring auction houses for paintings by him. This one just came up for sale and is one of the better ones I've seen. Sadly, with an estimate of EUR 4-5k, it is way, way over my budget. 😭

I've seen / heard of a couple of instances recently where lit mags had accepted a piece, then later changed their mind. I think that is totally, totally unacceptable behaviour.

Shocking.
Incredibly unprofessional by The Bridge (Chicago) & editor Michael Workman, who accepted a story I had submitted last year, ghosted me without follow-up, and then rejected the piece AFTER I had withdrawn it from other journals - wasting time, effort, and resources. (See reply)

Oh dear, the inevitable has happened: an idea for an essay entered my mind, and I feel I have to write it. It will be a struggle to do that AND make sure work on the novel keeps progressing... 😭

Ok, so these were the big winners of Pushcart '26. Some usual suspects, but also some surprises.
