Back home from New York, and I already want to go back just because of how slow-paced things are down here. Everything is so stimulating in New York. It's fast, fast, fast. It's recharge your battery and drain it, recharge and drain it. That's why it's important to take those days in the city where you stay inside and recharge instead of going out. It's so easy to say yes to everything, which you should at first, and I surely did this past month. Going out with friends, going to tech events, going on runs. It's surrendering to each and every situation and letting the flow of life move naturally instead of giving in to any resistance.
It was a life-changing experience. I leave town again in nine days for a mission trip with my church, and as soon as I get back, probably around the 4th of July, I'm already looking at my next location. I want to train somewhere out west in anticipation of my 100-mile challenge, which is coming up fast. 52 days left.
Even the roommates I had during my stay were one of my favorite parts. I can't really single out one favorite because I loved everything, but my roommates were so diverse. If you had asked me two years ago if I could see myself living with such a diverse crowd, I would have said absolutely not. I was fixed in my own ways. I know what I like, yada yada. Moral of the story: don't take things at face value. There's more depth beneath the surface, so go beneath.
There are so many more things I could touch on. The runs over the Williamsburg Bridge were euphoric. The skyline. Taking the subway for the first time. All the food, obviously. It was just necessary for growth. I moved back to South Carolina about 10 months ago, and my growth started to stagnate. Coming back was necessary at the time, but after I ran my marathon in February, I noticed I was getting complacent. I was comfortable with where I was. And now, fresh off New York, I'm already eager to go out again.
I think it comes down to doing things when they don't make sense. Like I've said in previous videos, do it because there's resistance there. That's often the best move, to jump when there's resistance. So if anyone out there is contemplating a move, just jump. You'll thank yourself a week later. It'll be uncomfortable in the beginning, but we came into this world naked, so be comfortable being naked. Moral of the story.
