Boom! We cracked it! Today we are introducing Boomless Cruise—supersonic flights up to 50% faster with no audible sonic boom. We quietly (har har) demo'd this on XB-1's first supersonic flight—three times actually. 🧵👇

There are a lot of dead bodies on the road to supersonic jets. Of everyone who has tried, only @boomsupersonic has broken the sound barrier with a human on board. We have a lot of work left to do and we are never giving up.
Since the Concorde, these private companies failed to get a supersonic passenger jet flying: -Aerion Corporation (AS2) -Exosonic (Horizon) -Virgin Galactic (SJP) -Spike Aerospace (S-512) Now it's @boomsupersonic's turn.

I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.

Ask for regulation, get what you asked for
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Four years ago our deal with Rolls-Royce was blowing up, and we hadn’t yet figured out that we could just make our own engine. How to solve this was a regular conversation at home. So my daughter Ada, then nine, ghostwrote a note to Pratt & Whitney on Pages on her iPad. It read: The official will you? Dear Pratt and Whitney, The thing is that Boom needs an engine for the plane and no one wants to do it. We were wondering if you would do it for us. If you help us the world could have super sonic flight again and people would know you were a part of it. PLEASE Please send your answer by June 4th. Sincerely, Blake Scholl P.s. what should I do for the p.s.?

Remarkably she did this without any help or encouragement. We never sent the letter to anyone at Pratt.

Stage one and two blisks for the first Symphony engine have arrived. We’re finished building the turbine rotor and now we can start building the compressor.

Fun fact: traveling with turbine blades and vanes in your carryon is a surefire @TSA conversation starter. One agent told me it was fine because cast iron is allowed. I started to say "no, it's advanced nickel superalloy" and remembered to shut up just barely in time.

Politicians pandering to polls are not leaders at all. They are followers of the worst kind—followers of the crowd. Great statesmen are true leaders and opinion makers.

A lot of people seem angry that Elon is now a trillionaire, so it’s worth reminding them that he didn’t achieve this by making anyone else poorer. Wealth isn't zero-sum. Paul Graham explained it well: paulgraham.com/wealth.html

The richest thing about this tweet is the taxes and regulations that give California the highest gas prices in the nation. Gavin, if you’re actually concerned about gas prices, when are you repealing those?
Americans are struggling to pay for groceries and gas while Elon Musk becomes a TRILLIONAIRE. When the federal government is for sale, the rich get richer and everyone else gets shafted. The system is rigged.

Organizations making the world a better place… *checks notes*… SpaceX.
Really hard to imagine becoming a trillionaire and not wanting to immediately liquidate enough assets to give at least a few hundred billion to organizations making the world a better place.
