Joint violence by the military and settler militias is a central component of Israel’s ethnic cleansing policy in the West Bank. In a violent, pre-planned attack, dozens of armed settlers accompanied by at least one soldier raided four Palestinian villages south of Nablus – Huwarah, ‘Einabus, Jama’in and ‘Asirah al-Qibliyah – on Saturday, 6 June 2026. At least eight Palestinian residents were injured in the attack, two of them by shrapnel from gunfire. ‘Omar ‘Abd al-Hakim Dar Muhammad, 20, was admitted to intensive care with a brain hemorrhage and severe facial fractures. The attackers caused massive damage to property and sources of income: they stole at least 44 sheep and a donkey, three vehicles, and expensive equipment from garages and from a concrete plant. They vandalized other vehicles and tried to set fire to the local council building in ‘Einabus.

New footage obtained by B’Tselem uncovers the moments when the Abu Haikal family was shot. Seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal was killed in the shooting, and both his parents were injured. The footage clearly shows that the Israeli soldier fired at the car as it was slowing to a stop. The car was far from the soldiers and posed no danger to them whatsoever. Moments later, in another video obtained by B’Tselem, seven-month-old Sam’s father, Fahed, is seen just after his son was shot. Fahed is holding baby Sam in his arms, trying to stop the bleeding from his head with his hands, while Sam’s mother, Daniyah, who was also injured by the gunfire while holding her son, is seen sitting on the ground, next to the car. Last Friday, 5 June, an Israeli soldier fired at a Palestinian family driving home from a family visit, as they sat in their car in the Tel Rumeidah neighborhood in Hebron. The family was shot as the car was slowing to a stop at the soldier’s command. Sam, a seven‑month‑old baby who was in his mother’s arms in the back seat, was struck in the head and pronounced dead shortly afterward. Sam’s parents were also injured by the gunfire; his mother is still in the hospital. After the shooting, the soldier who fired and another soldier who was with him left the scene without checking the car or offering any assistance to the critically wounded baby or to his mother. In the past two and a half years, Israel has killed tens of thousands of children in Gaza and the West Bank. The immunity it gets from the international community has led to a reality where, under Israeli rule, Palestinian lives are entirely disposable – even a seven‑month‑old baby.

Systematic violence and human rights violations are not exceptions to Israel's apartheid regime and occupation, they are integral to it. Israel is using unbridled violence in all the territories under its control, as well as in Lebanon and Iran. Yesterday, the community of Khan al-Ahmar and B'Tselem hosted 17 delegations of diplomats who came to personally meet the people Israel is threatening to forcibly displace. “I nodded off and was woken by my daughter’s hysterical crying. When I picked her up, I discovered rats had gnawed at her foot while she slept. I was so afraid, I felt my soul leave my body. I started screaming and crying, grabbed her and ran together with my husband between medical service points to find medicine or disinfectants against infection and poisoning. But the military doesn’t even allow medicine and disinfectants into Gaza.” Rana Qarmut, 22, describes the helplessness of parents in displacement camps trying to protect their children from the rodent infestation in Gaza. Israel’s systematic destruction of the water and sewage infrastructure have turned these camps into a public health crisis: the extreme levels of garbage and open sewage flowing between the tents are an ideal breeding ground for rodents and pests. According to Save the Children figures from April 2026, the tents in more than 80% of displacement camps have rats, fleas and ticks inside regularly. As summer temperatures rise, the combination of pollution, unhygienic conditions and a shattered healthcare system is leading to the spread of severe skin and intestinal diseases, and turning simple injuries into life-threatening conditions. By blocking the entry of basic necessities for survival, including medicines and pesticides, Israel is perpetuating an environment in Gaza that is unfit for human habitation, deliberately leaving millions of displaced people exposed to epidemics. Immediately after occupying East Jerusalem in 1967, Israel annexed about 70,000 dunam (1 dunam = 0.1 hectares) from the West Bank to its territory in violation of international law. Parts of this area were added to Jerusalem’s municipal boundaries. One third of the annexed territory was used to build settlements expressly designed to secure a Jewish majority and create a contiguous territorial bloc, while pushing Palestinian communities out of the urban space. The Silwan area, located near the Old City, is home to about 20,000 Palestinians who suffer from systemic, criminal neglect in terms of public infrastructure and services the Jerusalem Municipality is obligated to provide: Many streets are unpaved, waste is left to pile up in the streets, and street lighting is limited. On top of this neglect, residents face daily harassment and violence by both Israeli security forces and settlers. Right now, about 1,800 Silwan residents are being forced out of their homes, which Israel is granting to settler families. This follows the past two years in which hundreds have already been uprooted and left homeless, as their houses are being demolished to make way for a national park and a parking lot. On Saturday, 14 March 2026, a group of Israeli settlers entered the village of Qusrah in Nablus District, some carrying clubs and slingshots and others with firearms. They smashed windows of homes, vandalized two cars and damaged other property. About 10 village residents came to the families’ defense, including Mu’tasem ‘Odeh, 46, and his son Amir, 28. A confrontation developed and the settlers opened live fire at the residents. Amir ‘Odeh was shot in the chest, and two other residents were wounded in the legs. Amir collapsed immediately, and when his father rushed to him, the settlers attacked him, beating him on the head with a club until he lost consciousness and then stabbing him in both legs. The settlers also beat the wounded Amir with clubs. They then moved away. Residents took Amir and Mu’tasem ‘Odeh to Rafidya Hospital in Nablus, where Amir was pronounced dead. From October 2023 and to May 30, 2026, Israel killed 1,079 Palestinians in the West Bank, 35 of them killed by settlers. Israel is advancing ethnic cleansing in the Silwan area near the Old City in Jerusalem, home to about 20,000 Palestinian residents. In Baten al-Hawa, between October 2015 and April 2026, Israel forced 33 families, 77 people in total, including 37 children, out of their homes, with 15 families forced out just this past March. Israel is threatening 53 more families, 237 people including 130 children, with immediate expulsion. Meanwhile, in al-Bustan, 48 homes were demolished between October 2023 and April 2026, including 14 homes in the past two months, with 56 residents, including 20 children, forcibly displaced. Israel is currently preparing to demolish the homes of the 123 remaining families in the al-Bustan neighborhood and forcibly displace 1,450 people, including 900 children. These measures are part of a broad, systematic plan of ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Israel in East Jerusalem, aimed at shattering Palestinian communities and replacing them with settlement enclaves and national parks. Since October 2023, women in the Gaza Strip have been living under Israel’s genocide against Palestinians. By mid 2026, Israel had killed more than 72,000 people, 12,500 of them women, including more than 9,000 mothers, leaving 21,193 widows. For more than two and a half years, Palestinian women in Gaza have been forced to survive under Israel’s ongoing genocide, while carrying the impossible burden of keeping their families alive. As homes, hospitals, water systems and entire communities are destroyed, women are left to care for children, find food and water, protect loved ones, and preserve some sense of dignity amid devastation, displacement and loss. The destruction and extreme violence we have witnessed in Gaza since 7 October 2023 did not happen in a vacuum. They result directly from decades of dehumanization of Palestinians in Israel, which paved the way for the current catastrophe. Since October 2023, the discourse led by political leaders and senior military officers has portrayed Gaza residents as a group whose lives are completely worthless, and the horrifying results on the ground speak for themselves: more than 72,783 killed, more than 172,779 injured and about 1.9 million forcibly displaced.
