On this day in 1920 Dedan Kimathi Mau Mau Leader was Born Kimathi Waciuri, he was the senior military and spiritual leader of the Mau Mau uprising. Widely regarded as a revolutionary leader he led the armed military struggle against the British Colonial regime in Kenya in the 1950s.
No other revolt against British rule in Africa gained such notoriety as the Mau Mau rebellion, which grew into a four year full scale war with the European Power.
He was captured in 1956 and hanged on February 18th 1957.
He, along with Musa Mwariama and Muthoni Kirima (female) was one of the Field Marshalls of the Mau Mau.
