one of my pet peeves as a literary academic person is people reading a book about a mentally ill character and hyperfocusing on diagnosing that character. if the author wanted a specific diagnosis for their character they would’ve fucking put it in their book. missing the point
bc its almost never about that specific mental illness, ESPECIALLY if we’re looking at things like the yellow wallpaper or the bell jar (probably the most common character people try to diagnose). it’s not about what mental illness esther greenwood has!!!!! it’s an IDEA!!!!!
also the whole point of the bell jar is that they don’t actually diagnose her with anything. they aren’t trying to really help her. they dont take women seriously. they also don’t diagnose the cause of her hemorrhaging at the end. that’s the point
the yellow wallpaper is especially funny bc the narrator DIDNT HAVE A CLEAR DIAGNOSIS AND THATS THE POINT. it was published in FUCKING 1892. SHE HAD “HYSTERIA” AND THATS THE PROBLEM
i was hesitating on making my students read a certain short story bc it is pretty graphic and violent and then i remembered i don’t teach high school anymore i teach full grown adults
yall what the fuck is the thing that is hanging off healy’s hand when he’s fighting matt bomer near the end of the nice guys. like he looks at it hanging off his hand and then looks really concerned and then nothing happens? ryan gosling twitter pls help me wtf is that thing
i just got to the part of rdr2 where you find dead buffalo and i immediately knew it was talking abt the great buffalo hunts :( i didnt know rdr2 got so real tbh
1900 is pretty late for that but i’ll forgive it if we’re bringing awareness to the horror show of colonizers hunting buffalo. i actually learned abt the great buffalo hunt in school bc i live in the general area but i think most people don’t rlly know what it is
it’s so unfair that i am such a big bug fan and i love going out and looking for bugs but i am also allergic to mosquitos and get bit by mosquitos constantly
dragon age nice guys au where hawke and varric are a private investigator duo, carver/bethany is the 13-year-old relative who keeps sneaking onto cases with them, and they go through cases and pick up a new companion on each case
also. come on. the idea of being invincible is perfect for the CHARACTER WHO GETS STABBED DIRECTLY THROUGH THE STOMACH WITH A GREATSWORD AND PICKED UP WITH THE SWORD
i know the “you will never be happy” is pen and not a tattoo in the nice guys but hawke having a “you will never be happy” tattoo and then getting injured in a way that makes the tattoo say “you will ⬜️ be happy” is a very hawke thing
hawke having the tattoo from like. right after malcolm or their sibling dies or just sometime pre-game where they feel very alone. and then getting injured after getting all the companions so the “you will … be happy” comes about from helping their friends
