All he had to do was hire the right people in the first place but it's just been mistake after mistake. Even the guys that almost won did just as much harm as they did good
Daryl Katz can run the Edmonton Oilers however he likes, but his level of involvement is concerning to fans who just want to see their team look competent. #LetsGoOilers | @OilersNation oilersnation.com/news/edmont…

That has nothing to do with nothing
A high-end young goalie Knight and a first rounder as with Jones? Unlikely because this was a Cup winner Florida willing to give up lots for second crack at it

More mid-range contracts
Holland would trade for Nurse in heartbeat for his weak D. Not moving Laferrière but you can bet GM would move G Kuemper. If Oilers could get Kuemper (1 yr left at $5.25m) to tag-team Jarry and winger Trevor Moore (2yrs at $4.2m) might that work? Toss in W Quinn Hutson to LA

The Kings seem obvious for Nurse. It's a low-pressure market, they will need someone to replace Doughty after this year and Holland can't be objective about Nurse
Clearly Ken Holland will be hottest to trot to get Nurse for his weak back-end but unless Oilers get forward Alex Laferrière back that should be non starter for Edm. If trading Nurse, string way forward for Oilers is to sign Kulak as left D

If Kulak wants to come back on the cheap, yes. I have some friends that know his family. He loved being an Oiler. But you can't pay 3rd pair guys a lot

Alex Turcotte is cheap, is a good buy-low candidate because of a low shooting pct year and he wins over 50 pct of his faceoffs

You know who can be a taskmaster not an idiot? Jay Woodcroft
Oilers have had their player leadership quite active in the process of finding a coach. On top of an in person meeting with Babcock the player group also met with Peter Laviolette around the same time.

Make Cassidy available and this all goes away
There’s no timeline on how quickly this can be carried out. The Oilers are aware of this. Players involved, etc in 2023 will have to be interviewed. If Babcock were to back out at this stage, a league source says there would be no reason to investigate.

Would be horrendous news for people who can't bear the thought of thinking about their own teams
"I don't think there's anybody more committed to Edmonton than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl... I expect the next contract to be a seven-year extension." @Bob_Stauffer joins @Mattymar89 and @FutaMichael to discuss the ongoing conversation surrounding McDavid's future.

Make the NHL work. Good. They didn't pressure Vegas and now they have this to deal with this. All of this could have been easily avoided. Stauffer kept saying what if Cassidy never becomes available
The NHLPA has asked the NHL to move forward with an investigation into the allegations Mike Babcock invaded players privacy during his time in Columbus.

Maybe he gave a two year low AAV window before going max x seven to finish
If McDavid was committed, why didn’t he sign max term when he very well could have?

There is that possibility
Replying to @BleedOilBlue
and it'll be for 20÷ a season the 2 yr discount was just to help the team amd allow the cap to go up

This seems unlikely
WOW! 👀 Bob Stauffer just said on Fan590 in Toronto that Connor McDavid will re-sign with the Edmonton Oilers for seven more years. "I don't think there's anybody more committed to Edmonton than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl... I expect the next contract to be a seven year extension." Oilers fans will love hearing that. 🧡💙

The Hymans just signed Babcock's son to coach their OHL team. Hyman has been a vocal proponent of Babcock's in the past. Seems a decent guess he was consulted. If the leadership core is good with this, then what do you do sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/fri…

Maybe Edm is making the NHL have this conversation about Babcock because they are mad the league isn't putting the screws to Vegas about Cassidy. Maybe with LA and Laviolette, it means Vegas might have to pay Cassidy to stay home and this tweeks them. Or maybe it's pure panic:)
Sources: The Edmtn Oilers are consulting with the NHLPA to see if there are objections that must be resolved before potentially hiring Mike Babcock. Amid allegations of invading players privacy, Babcock resigned in CBJ as Head Coach in 2023. Further investigation may be required.

It's no longer a Canadian market problem. This has to be addressed in the next CBA. There has be a forfeiture of previous rights if you demand a trade
“I no longer want to captain my hometown team, but I will only go to these three contenders full of the guys who won me a gold medal” I would strongly consider telling him to stay home for the next five years

It's a terrible look for the media who took every chance to criticize Bouchard and screamed for accountability when they also knew that coaches had lost faith in Nurse
I'll say this about Spec's piece on Nurse, it's an odd approach for the Oilers to take. Clearly, this was written on a source Spec trusts and knows. Safe to say it's someone within the organization or in the know. Embarrassing the player probably isn't the best approach to take.

If the Oilers accomplish nothing more than just moving on from Nurse as a pure cap dump, that's the spot that should lead to a Dorofeyev offersheet. The mid-range contract is death. And Car has proven you can find, via math, guys for your bottom six who at worst can saw off

No way you need to attach Howard to Nurse
"When he realizes that a trade is imminent, however, two sources have told Sportsnet that the Oilers’ preference would be to move Nurse before the start of next season" #LetsGoOilers Darnell Nurse last 5 seasons: $6.4m, $6.6m, $4m, $4,4m, $2.2m Power Score Given it, rebuilding teams look like the most possible customers. They would acquire his deal in addition to picks/prospects (Howard?). But not sure he is willing to waive the NMC for such an option
